THE DARK SIDE OF MODERN SURVEILLANCE Across the globe, surveillance specialists are warning about the rise of hidden spy cameras - not being used for safety, but for exploitation. They’re small, cheap, and easy to order online. And they’re turning up in the most private of places: public bathrooms, changing rooms, hotel rooms, and even inside private homes and holiday rentals - often without the knowledge or consent of those being filmed. This isn’t just a rare occurrence. Journalist Inzamam Rashid, formerly of The Debrief, recently discovered a hidden camera in the bathroom of an Airbnb in Istanbul while on holiday. Surveillance experts worldwide are now raising the alarm about the scale of the problem - one that is growing rapidly and being fueled by unregulated, easily accessible technology. Airbnb’s website states that hidden cameras are strictly prohibited in all listings – indoor surveillance devices are banned – and new rules took effect on April 30, 2024. So how easy is it to spy on someone using legal, off-the-shelf surveillance gear? On The Agenda, Georgia Tolley spoke to Inzamam Rashid about his shocking discovery, and to Amir Mortezaie, founder and managing partner at Corementis UAE, to break down how this is happening — and what can be done to stop it. #PrivacyMatters #HiddenCameras #DigitalEthics #SurveillanceAbuse #TechForGood #CyberSecurity #AirbnbSafety #TheAgenda #DubaiEye1038 #InzamamRashid #CorementisUAE #AmirMortezaie #DataProtection #VoyeurismCrisis #RegulationNow Inzamam Rashid Georgia Tolley Amir Mortezaie corementis
