These apprentices began their journey in 2020 as part of our commitment to create 1,000 early career positions over the life of the Hunter Class Frigate Program. They’ve now completed their training across steelwork, mechanical, electrical and technical trades. Their achievement marks an important milestone for them and for Australia’s continuous naval shipbuilding enterprise. 🏗️🎨🚢 The first Hunter class frigate is about to have part of its keel – Block 4 – move into the blast and paint chamber. Here, Block 4 will undergo abrasive blasting processes and be finished with highly durable protective coatings developed for harsh conditions at sea. When the block comes out of Building 18 in early 2026 (like the pictured prototype block), it will move to the Block Outfitting Hall and be one of the first blocks on which we build the ship from the keel up.
