It was a privilege to welcome the Premier, Deputy Premier and Health Minister to site this week for a visit to WA’s first children’s hospice, Sandcastles Boodja Mia.   This project will provide a peaceful sanctuary for children needing respite and palliative care, and a place for families to spend precious time together. Construction is progressing well, with completion expected later this year, and it’s inspiring to see what can be achieved when community, government and industry come together for such an important cause.   West to West is proud to be part of a project that truly matters, alongside an incredible team bringing this important space to life.

  • Proud to stand alongside incredible partners making this vision a reality for WA families.

Thanks to $20+ million in operational funding from the WA Government, Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) children’s hospice will be able to open its doors after construction and commissioning are complete later this year. We were proud to welcome Premier Roger Cook, Minister John Carey MLA and Minister Meredith Hammat MLA to the site yesterday, with construction progressing well. This vital funding will enable 24/7 care, statewide outreach and family support - giving children and young people with life-limiting conditions a home-away-from-home by the ocean, and families a place to spend precious time together. PCHF is proud to partner with the Child and Adolescent Health Service on this much-needed initiative. Sandcastles is funded by PCHF thanks to the generosity of the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, Cancer Council Western Australia (via a bequest from the late John Street), Minderoo Foundation, Lotterywest, Australian Government, and the wider WA community. Sandcastles is made possible thanks to the generous support of the development team, including Hassell, Hesperia, Encon, and West to West Group. • Encon is grateful to be part of a project that truly matters. This funding ensures WA families will have the care and support they deserve - a milestone for compassionate healthcare in our state.

WA’s first children’s hospice will be a peaceful sanctuary for children who need respite and palliative care. And a place for families to spend precious time together. It’s wonderful to see construction progressing so well, with the hospice expected to be complete later this year. Today, we announced an extra $21 million to make sure it has the staff and resources it needs to open its doors as soon as possible, and deliver the care and compassion families deserve. Because it's important that every Western Australian can access the healthcare they need, when they need it.

Earlier this month, I finished my journey with Encon I want to sincerely thank Shaun Oostryck Michael Van Dongen and Mark Kepplinger for providing me with the opportunity, and the entire Encon team for the good times. The knowledge I’ve gained, the exposure to exciting projects and clients, and—most importantly—the culture that the team has built are truly incomparable. Unfortunately, this means saying goodbye to WA for now. But fortunately, we are heading home to Tasmania where we’ll be surrounded by the support of family. Grateful for the past, and excited for what’s to come!
