  • The new WAAPA home at ECU City will be known as the Minderoo Centre for Performance Excellence, recognising our long-term partnership with Edith Cowan University to strengthen Western Australia’s creative future. This investment supports the specialist fit-out of eight performance venues and establishes the Premier Visiting Artist Fund, helping WAAPA deliver world-class training and expand long-term opportunities for students, artists and the wider community. Dr Andrew Forrest AO emphasised the transformative power of the arts: “Art has the power to transform the world, and Minderoo Foundation is proud to champion the next generation of visionary WAAPA artists at this world leading facility. It will be a place where bold ideas, movements, and inspiration take root and blossom.” Nicola Forrest AO reflected on the importance of this contribution to WA’s cultural life: “This is a gift to the community of Perth and to the artists who make our city and our state a vibrant and thriving place to live. It will help bring Edith Cowan University's vision to life and secure WAAPA’s standing among the world’s leading performing arts institutions.” Opening in 2026, the Centre will host more than 300 public performances each year. We’re proud to support a place where creativity thrives, community grows and future generations of performers can learn, collaborate and inspire. • In the vast waters of the South Pacific, understanding marine biodiversity has long been a challenge. Now, sailors travelling through these remote regions are collecting environmental DNA as they go, helping researchers study areas rarely reached by scientific expeditions. • Construction is now underway on Katanning’s new Early Childhood Hub, a major step toward improving access to early learning, health and family support services in the Great Southern.   Through the Early Years Partnership, we are working with the Cook Government and local communities to strengthen the early years for children aged 0 to 4. The hub is one of 24 priority projects identified by partner communities across Armadale West, Bidyadanga, Central Great Southern and Derby.   Once complete, the hub will bring essential services together in one place, including an early learning centre with 67 long day care places, a family centre, child health offices and visiting child development services. It builds on other initiatives already underway in the region, such as a transport service that helps families get to early learning and health appointments. Early Years Partnership partners have committed over $35 million to projects across the four communities, supporting locally led solutions that strengthen families.   Every child deserves the chance to thrive. The Katanning Hub shows what is possible when communities, government and philanthropy work together to create strong foundations for children and families. • What does it mean to give every child the best start? We asked leaders, parents and advocates at the State of Australia’s Children launch what stood out most from the report – and what gives them hope. Their answers remind us that the solutions are already within reach when we listen to children, families and communities. Watch and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Meeting today in Canberra, Australian Children’s Commissioners, Guardians and Advocates (ACCGA) welcomed the release of UNICEF Australia’s ‘State of Australia’s Children Report 2025’ – a vital yet concerning snapshot of how our children and young people are faring. However, the group expressed fear for the future of Australia’s most vulnerable children and young people and concern for a lack of action to respond to the disproportionate disadvantage they experience. The figures are particularly grim for those in out-of-home care, children with disability, and children involved in the youth justice or child protection systems.
