  • Hospital stays can be tough - not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too. When one of our Peel Health Campus patients shared how much she missed her dogs, Lacey and Annie, our team knew how important it was to make a reunion happen. With the support of PHC’s Pastoral Care Chaplain and our wonderful nursing staff, she was able to spend time with her fur babies in a quiet, private space at the hospital 🐶 “I’m so appreciative of Mark and the nurses for arranging this for me. It meant the world to see Lacey and Annie again. Pets hold so much of your heart, and it’s good for people to know that it’s possible to see them—even in hospital.” It’s moments like these that remind us: healing is about more than medicine alone 💜

  • Taking her first steps, Nicole Naughton reached a major milestone in her recovery journey last week with the help of her Fiona Stanley Hospital State Rehabilitation Service (FSH SRS) physiotherapist. Walking was what she did every day with her dog near her home in Rockingham until she was hit by a car and left with serious injuries by the side of the road. After initially being treated in the Trauma Ward at Royal Perth Hospital, Nicole was transferred to the FSH SRS to begin her rehabilitation journey. Retiring from his job, Nicole’s husband Frank has been by her side ever since she’s been in hospital. Watch the exclusive interview with Channel 7 below 👇

  • Five years ago, after Michele Alexander’s short COVID volunteering stint at Fremantle Hospital, she knew she had to be part of the warm and friendly community. With a background in business coaching, Michele jumped at the opportunity when a position opened with the Director of Site Management, and the rest is history! Now with the Engineering team doing the hardy behind-the-scenes work that helps the hospital run smoothly, Michele says what makes her tick is turning chaos into order and always having a plan – “it’s how we make the most of every single day.” Her favourite parts of her job? Simple, saying hi to friendly faces in the hallways, and the smile and the thank you after her team makes something possible 💜 Thank you for your hard work and support of those around you, Michele. We’re lucky to have people like you on our team.

  • 'Absolute angels’ was how cancer patient Julie Mancini described her care team at the Fiona Stanley (FSH) Cancer Centre as she marks ten years (with cupcakes!!) since her stem cell transplant following a relapse of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). AML is an aggressive form of cancer that causes the rapid buildup of abnormal white blood cells and interferes with normal blood cell production. During the event Julie acknowledged how much her doctors and nurses have done for her over the past decade and vowed to never let the c – word get her down. "I'm a survivor and I won't let this cancer thing get into my head. It's not getting me,” said Julie. Spoken like a true warrior, Julie! This week, the Allied Health team at South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) proudly celebrated a strong presence at the 16th National Allied Health Conference in Adelaide. With 16 dedicated staff attending and an impressive 18 presentations delivered, our allied health professionals showcased their leadership in clinical innovation, research, and service improvement on a national stage. 🏆 We’re thrilled to share that SMHS staff received 3 of the 10 awards presented at the conference: - Best Early-career Researcher Presentation – Dr Piers Truter, PhD - Best First-time Presenter – Sumer Kelly-Stout & Munisah Suparta - People’s Choice Award (Poster) – Laura Quinnell 👏 Behind every presentation and award was a broader network of Research Coordinators, Allied Health Educators, collaborators from Curtin University and other institutions, WA Chief Allied Health Office (Jenny Campbell and Mark Petrich), mentors, and team members who contributed tirelessly in the background. +1
  • Recently, allied health staff at Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) took part in Enabling EDIE, an immersive VR training ,facilitated by Dementia Australia, that showed what life can be like for someone living with dementia. RGH Senior Social Worker Ciara Quinn said the experience helped teams better understand, empathise, and support patients and their families. The session was attended by RGH social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech pathologists and nursing assistants who all embraced the innovative approach to delivering patient-centred care for older adults 💜
