BREAKING: Therapeutic Goods Administration proposes the toughest cuts ever on petrochemical sunscreen actives in Australia. • Homosalate 15 % ➜ 0.28 % (‑53×) • Oxybenzone 10 % ➜ 1 % (‑90 %) • Benzophenone max 0.038 % (trace only) The science has been clear since 2019, Europe acted, but Australia is only moving now. To everyone who kept saying “all sunscreens are safe”—time to answer for that claim. Next to be restricted: 4‑MBC (4-methylbenzylidene camphor) The implications of the use of these synthetic chemicals at high concentrations for the last decade are unknown. Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Four Corners ran an episode last night: 'Cancer rates in Australians under 50 are rising at a pace that's alarming doctors and scientists' by Dr Norman Swan Elise Potaka Anushri Sood 'Between 2000 and 2024 — in 30 to 39-year-olds — early onset prostate cancer increased by 500 per cent, pancreatic cancer by 200 per cent, liver cancer by 150 per cent, uterine cancer by 138 per cent and kidney cancer by 85 per cent.' 'Some increases, such as prostate cancer, might be explained by changes in the way they are diagnosed — but most cannot.' 'Most experts believe toxins or toxic influences in the world around us are interacting with genes to cause malignant changes. In other words, you might unknowingly carry a gene that's only altered when you're exposed to a particular chemical.' Christos Symeonides is a paediatrician who studies chemical and microplastic exposures through his work at the Minderoo Foundation. "It seems that the system is currently based on exactly that assumption, that until you establish and prove harm, a chemical is considered to be safe, whether you've looked for harm or not," he says. A very smart move by Wesfarmers Health to enter into that gap between high end retailers SEPHORA, MECCA Brands and lower priced #pharmacy and Discount Department Store #cosmetics, #beauty and #hair care. The pilot store at Castle Towers in #Sydney was previously a Priceline Pharmacy, without a pharmacy offering, and is the first step in a planned expansion to other parts of #Australia in 2025. It retails viral #brands such as Bubble #Skincare and Korean beauty favourite #Innisfree, along with established brands like The Ordinary, La Roche-Posay, #Clinique, Conserving Beauty, #Hairification, e.l.f. and #Milani. #Atomica also has dedicated 'Glow Advisors' (similar to #Sephora's "Licensed Beauty Advisors", whose role is to assist customers with tailored beauty advice and in-store services. #Wesfarmers Health Retail Director Richard Pearson said: "We saw a gap in the market for an affordable and accessible #beauty-focused #retail proposition that delivers an inspirational in-store experience with coveted international brands and locally-loved Australian brands". #Retail #Retailing #Retailers Australian Retailers Association (ARA) QUT (Queensland University of Technology) RETHINK Retail
