  • Who will win the Social Engagement Awards? The decision is in your hands! Each of the shortlisted associations is making a significant contribution to social inclusion in Belgium. Moreover, in 2025, they all received financial support from our two funds: Impact Together and the BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation, both managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. The Social Engagement Awards exist to shine a light on their inspiring work. However, only two can be rewarded, so your vote really counts! Pick the association that means the most to you … perhaps it operates in your neighbourhood, or it’s dedicated to a cause that personally affects you. • Wie wint de allereerste Social Engagement Awards? Jij beslist!

  • Behind every strong business are accountants who calculate faster than their own shadow. While others lose their way in chaos, they keep the ship on course. It is not an easy task, given the constantly changing regulations, tight deadlines and increasing digitalisation. Today is Accountant’s Day, the perfect opportunity to put the heroes of numbers in the spotlight. At BNP Paribas Fortis, we work closely with accountants every day. They are partners who think along with us, make adjustments and help our shared clients grow stronger. As a trusted financial partner, we want to be their first choice more than ever, especially on a day like today. Because thanks to accountants, thousands of businesses stay on course. And together, we steer towards the future. #AccountantsDay

#DagVanDeAccountant

  • A new series kicks off this week on our Chief Economist’s page: Chart Chat — a weekly snapshot of an economic trend that matters. This first chart sends a clear message ahead of COP30: climate change is becoming uninsurable. The cost of natural disasters is rising fast, outpacing global growth. Investing in the green transition isn’t optional — it’s essential. #ChartChat #COP30 #ClimateRisk #Sustainability

Starting this week, I’ll be sharing a Chart of the Week every Wednesday — a visual that highlights a striking economic fact making headlines. This week’s chart (swipe left for the full graph) could serve as a warning for world leaders meeting in Belém on 6–7 November to prepare for the COP30 climate summit. 👉 Climate change is costing insurance companies money The insured losses due to natural disasters are increasing year on year, outpacing the growth of the global economy. On top of these losses, an equally large number of uninsured losses is added. Globally, the economic loss resulting from natural disasters amounts to approximately 0.3% of GDP annually. Coastal regions, particularly in Asia, are becoming increasingly difficult to insure. Note that the Belgian, French and Dutch coastal areas are also vulnerable to future flooding. Without action, real estate in risk areas will become virtually uninsurable. The solution? Invest more quickly in mitigation (limiting emissions) and especially adaptation (equipping societies with infrastructure investments, etc.). Conclusion: Investing in the transition to a green economy is not a luxury, but a pure necessity. Investments made today will result in massive savings tomorrow. #ClimateRisk #COP30 #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #ChatChart Graph source: Swiss Re.
