Today, I’m proud to be the first ever pharmacist on a Forbes North America cover, and my cofounder Can Uncu and I have been recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Healthcare list. Forbes spotlighting a pharmacy company to represent the Healthcare category feels bigger than just our story. It’s a signal that pharmacy is finally being recognized as what it truly is: a core pillar of the healthcare system, not just the last stop on the way out of the hospital or clinic. We started Asepha because of a simple but painful reality I saw over and over again as a pharmacist. Patients can see their physicians, receive a prescription, and still never successfully take their medications. In many chronic conditions, only around half of patients take their meds as prescribed, driving preventable complications and hospital readmissions later on. We also have to be honest about how complicated it is for patients to actually receive medication in the first place. They’re blocked by adherence challenges, dense and confusing prior authorization requirements, and the complexity of navigating payor rules across North America. Meanwhile, inside the pharmacy, the system is cracking. Roughly 70% of pharmacies report being understaffed, and pharmacists spend the vast majority of their day on manual, repetitive work instead of counseling patients or solving clinical problems. That’s why Can and I started Asepha. We’re building AI agents that take on the clerical and coordination work behind the scenes; processing prescriptions in seconds, navigating complex payor workflows, and flagging the cases that truly need a human pharmacist’s judgment. This moment is a reminder of why we started: to make it radically easier for patients to access their medications, and give pharmacists their time back so they can practice at the top of their license again.
