Over 100 years ago, the University of Saskatchewan gave out the first undergraduate accounting degree, making us one of Canada’s oldest business schools. Today, the Edwards School of Business offers a robust Bachelor of Commerce program with six majors, study abroad options and a co-operative education program. At the graduate level, we offer a variety of Master’s programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, and Marketing. We also work closely with the business community through our Executive Education team by providing training and professional development opportunities. Fun facts about the Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club Inc. Since the mid 1960s, every appointed or interim Commerce/Edwards Dean has been at the helm of the school when the Saskatchewan Roughriders appeared in a Grey Cup game. The ceremonious streak began with Lloyd Barber (and the 1966 Grey Cup championship) then seamlessly passed in an unbroken succession to Sam Laimon, Mike Maher, John Brennan, Lynne Pearson, Grant Isaac, C. Brooke Dobni, PhD, and Daphne Taras. 8 consecutive Deans with at least one Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup appearance during their tenure as leader. Until me 😞 After I began as Dean in 2017, the Saskatchewan Roughriders experienced occasional bursts of regular season glory only to fall short in the playoffs. Until 2025. 😀 The Saskatchewan Roughriders magically ascended to Canadian Football League supremacy. The team appeared in the Grey Cup game and won their fifth league title. The streak will continue!!

Congratulations Chantel Laventure (B.Comm. 2007, MBA 2010) on your new role as Associate Vice President, Strategic Enablement and Service Delivery at the University of Saskatchewan. “The Associate Vice-President, Strategic Enablement and Service Delivery plays a leadership role in the collaborative development and implementation of strategic, cross-institutional initiatives to identify and implement transformative opportunities that enhance business and customer value. Additionally, our team plays an important role to lead in major administrative areas by empowering a high performance, networked team that has the capability to collaborate with university partners, provide enhanced coordination and support for teaching and research. We enable creative solutions to service delivery and support a sustainable future in the areas of service delivery and strategic enablement services including business partners and relationship management (HR, Finance, Facilities), program and project management, centre of expertise for finance advisory services, and administrative networks across USask. My education at USask gave me the foundational skills to prepare me for the workforce. Going back to school for my MBA further enhanced and sharpened the skills needed to advance in my career.
