At Kal Tire, we’re always looking for ways to improve safety and reduce downtime. The KalPRO™ ValveShield is a great example of how an idea from the field evolved into a solution that’s now making a difference every day by protecting tire valve stems from being displaced by flying debris and power washing. ValveShield is just one of many innovations that help keep fleets operating safely and efficiently. We’re proud of the work our Kal Tire Mining Tire Group is doing to solve real-world challenges with practical solutions.
In the demanding, rocky conditions of many open pit mines, flying rocks can displace the air valve stem of a mining tire – this common occurrence can cause tire leaks, tire damage and downtime. Fortunately, Kal Tire customers have the KalPRO™ ValveShield protecting tire air valves even in the toughest conditions. To reduce the risk of operating haul trucks and loaders with under-inflated tires, the ValveShield is mounted and installed over the air valve stem, and its magnetic backing provides stability and flexibility. It’s simple, yet incredibly effective at solving the expensive problem of equipment stoppage and tire failure. 1) It’s easy to install. The ValveShield is made of a lightweight yet robust polyurethane cover, and the magnetic backing makes it stable yet easy to remove. 2) It works. At open pit mines, it can improve tire performance on loader or haul trucks and can protect valve stems at any mine during power washing. ValveShield is just one of several KalPRO tools that keep trucks on the road and tires performing at their best to improve safety and productivity. With the return to school comes new driving routines for many families. Whether you’re behind the wheel or your teen is, checking your vehicle over is key to a safe and smooth start to the season. Our expert tire technicians recommend three key vehicle checks to consider before the school season begins: 𝗧𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 - Elevated summer temperatures can increase tire pressure, impacting handling and safety. 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗵 - Worn tread can compromise traction, especially on wet fall roads. 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 - Early inspection helps catch wear before it compromises performance From coast to coast, our technicians are here to help keep your vehicle safe and road ready. As the summer temperatures rise, so does your tire pressure. For every 10°C increase, tires can gain about 1 pound of pressure per square inch (PSI). Alternatively, if the temperature goes down by 10°C, tires can lose 2 to 4 PSI. Add in the heat from driving, and your tires could be running 5+ PSI above the recommended level. Check your tire pressure regularly, especially during heatwaves and long drives. Stay safe this summer and extend the life of your tires. A proudly Canadian company since 1953 🍁
