About us

The services we provide directly affect and are essential to our customers’ quality of life and wellbeing. From homes to hospitals, elder-care facilities to elementary schools, our customers depend on our ability to continue to provide safe and reliable energy and water services. For over 30 years, Liberty has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to delivering clean energy and water solutions. Our rapid growth has led both our renewable energy and regulated services businesses into different geographies and commodities, but our purpose remains unchanged – Sustaining Energy and Water for Life. Liberty provides rate-regulated water, wastewater, electricity, and natural gas utility services to over 800,000 customers in the United States and Canada. And, our growing portfolio of clean, renewable wind, solar, hydro and thermal power generation facilities represents over 2 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity and more than 1.6 GW of renewable energy projects under construction. Through embedding sustainability in our day-to-day business decisions and putting our customers first in all that we do, we know that we can do well by doing good. We recognize that we have a role to play in leading the energy transition towards greener solutions for our customers and communities. And, our recent recognition through our inclusion in the 2020 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index and as one of the Top 10 of Corporate Knights Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World ranking are testaments to our work in sustainability. Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp: Liberty represents the regulated services group and renewable energy group of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. Liberty was proud to have Liberty New York Water President Deborah Franco share insights and expertise last week at the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Summer Policy Summit. Deborah was a member of the panel, “Infrastructure Investment: Challenges and Solutions,” which focused on updates and repairs to water infrastructure. She joined peers from water utilities around the country to discuss best practices, success stories, and preparing for the future. We thank Deborah for sharing her expertise and bringing back more knowledge that will benefit Liberty! #ThisIsOurLiberty #NARUC #Regulatory

Two recent events helped kids get a break from the summer heat. Aurora Library's Independence Day bicycle parade had a great turnout – maybe because of the free snow cones courtesy of the Downtown Project and Sno Jo, goodie bags from the city, and bottled water, suckers, and fans from Liberty. The hot afternoon festivities were capped off with a hydrant party. A fun and refreshing time was had by all. Thank you to our team members from Aurora-area water and electric operations – Sami, Camille, Kaiden, Erin, and Michael – for volunteering their time to make this event a success. Also, a Water Day was held last month in Verona. Liberty worked with the local fire department to provide water for a giant sprinkler to cool off summer-school students. Our Liberty teams always enjoy making a splash! 💦 #ThisIsOurLiberty #CommunityInvolvement #StrongerTogether #MakingASplash #FeelGoodFriday

On Friday, June 6, a team of Liberty employees in Fredericton, New Brunswick proudly took part in the United Way of Central New Brunswick’s Annual Day of Caring.   The team was paired with "Para NB" - a vital organization that offers a free equipment loan program to help individuals with physical disabilities access adaptive sports and recreational activities.   Liberty volunteers rolled up their sleeves to clean and inspect the equipment, ensuring everything is safe, functional, and ready for the next person to enjoy. It was a hands-on way to support inclusion and active living in our community.   📢 Shout out to our hardworking volunteers: Angelle Pelletier, Laura Acton, CPHR, Bianca Bertin, Mike Beamish, Steven Clarke, Nadine Chiasson, Chad Hughes, Jared Braun, and Mike Morrison.

Did you know? Liberty recently completed a multi-year, multi-phase project to upgrade the electrical infrastructure in the Fallen Leaf area near the California-Nevada border. This project aims to improve service reliability as well as reduce the risk of wildfire ignition in an area that has dense forest, challenging terrain, and increased wildfire risk. With the recent completion of Phase D, the fourth and final phase, Liberty has replaced over 6 miles of aging overhead wire with modern, insulated covered conductor (wire). The covered conductor will reduce the potential for electrical faults caused by contact with vegetation, wildlife, or debris, thereby decreasing the risk of wildfire ignition. Additionally, the project included the replacement of aging utility poles and the installation of new poles to support the heavier covered conductor. These upgrades aim to increase system durability and resilience in the long-term. This project is part of Liberty’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable electric service to our customers and communities. Thank you to all the teams and individuals who worked on this project! #ThisIsOurLiberty
