For nearly 20 years, Lori Denton has built her career with Walmart Canada in Digby, Nova Scotia, where she’s now a Total Loss and Compliance Manager. And today, she’s even prouder of her daughter, Kristina, whose journey with The PREP Academy - an organization we're proud to support - has helped her discover her voice and pursue her dreams. And in a powerful full-circle moment, one of Kristina’s first projects at PREP was working on a province-wide Walmart Canada grant where 16 stores in Nova Scotia donated a total of $16,000 to the organization! We’re taking another trip into the archives! 📆🕰️ This time, we’re looking at the 1995 Shareholders edition of Wal-Mart Canada Today. This leaflet was distributed at the annual Shareholders meeting held at Walmart Inc. headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. We were the new kids on the block that year and we were keen to teach our American counterparts more about the Great White North! This Shareholders edition of Wal-Mart Canada today featured a double-page spread celebrating our commitment to Canadian suppliers. We’ve been a proud supporter of local suppliers since we opened our doors in Canada in 1994, purchasing billions of dollars’ worth of goods from Canadian suppliers. Today, more than 10,000 locally-made products are available in-store and online at Walmart.ca – and we can’t wait to welcome even more in the months and years to come! #Walmart #WalmartCanada

“It was like winning an Academy Award!” 🏆 That’s how Steve Taylor, a beloved Greeter from our store in Amherstburg, ON, described the moment he was named our 2024 Shining Star of the Year - our highest associate honour. 💫 Steve’s been a greeter at our Amherstburg Walmart since it opened its doors 18 years ago, warmly welcoming our customers and setting the tone for a positive shopping experience. And when fellow associate Lynore Brian was tasked with growing the following of the store’s social media accounts, she knew Steve had untapped star power. 📽️ Steve is now the star of many of the store’s most popular social media posts, bringing his warm demeanor and engaging personality to the small screen. His top social media post has more than 10 million views and nearly 560,000 likes! First up: this 1995 article from our internal Wal-Mart Today newsletter, celebrating the first year of Walmart in Canada! The article was penned by our first President and CEO, Bruce West, and speaks to the achievements and milestones we hit during Year 1 in the Canadian market. 🍁 This included renovating 122 stores, building three new stores, surpassing sales predictions, and introducing Canadians to our commitment to every day low prices! “When I think of all our success over the past year, one word comes to mind – teamwork,” Bruce wrote. “Its definition now means much more to the Canadian family than ‘combined action’ and ‘cooperation.’ It means going the extra mile, respecting each other, working together towards common goals, having fun, and always maintaining an open line of communication.” A lot has changed for us over the past 30 years, but some things have remained the same: keeping our associates, and teamwork, at the heart of our business, and working hard every day to help Canadians save money so they can live better! #Walmart #WalmartCanada

We’ve been a proud supporter of the Canadian Red Cross for over two decades. Our annual campaign to support the Red Cross, which kicked off earlier this month, comes at a crucial time when Canadians are experiencing a busy start to the wildfire season.  This spring and summer, fires have threatened communities across the country. The Red Cross has been working tirelessly to provide support to people and communities who have been forced from their homes in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.  For the month of July, we’re inviting our customers to support the Canadian Red Cross by donating during checkout in stores and on Walmart.ca.
