Alberta looks to be the next Canadian province stepping toward iGaming regulation. If Ontario showed us anything, it’s that once regulation happens, things move quickly. Operators that prepare early, building out offers, onboarding flows, acquisition strategy, CRM strategy tend to launch stronger and gain ground faster. Poorly designed roulette promotion gave players 2.7% mathematical edge over the casino. I was recently reminded of an email: marketing team came up with a roulette promotion bonus idea. A promotion where, on specific dates of the month, that number on roulette would pay out at 1:37 instead of 1:35. So if today is the 29th date, then number 29 would pay more than others. Simple idea. But if you look at it from player’s perspective: Why would they bet on any other number?   Keep repeating bets on 29. There’s a high chance to have an edge over the casino. Let’s do some calculations. Probability of hitting a single number: 1/37 (≈2.7%) Expected return: 2.7%*(35+1) = 97.30 % RTP What happens at 1:37? 2.7%*(37+1) = 102.70% RTP (player now has an edge over the house) So for every 100 euro the player bets with 1:37 payout, they would get:  In the 1:37 promo bonus payout scenario with 1:37, a player betting €100 on a single number could potentially win €3,700 if their number hits. In a standard 1:35 roulette payout, they would win €3,500. Extra €200 per win, that leads to positive expected value (+2.7% edge for the player)… highly exploitable. Just one of many advantage roulette promotion cases we prevented historically.
