Radio gets a bad rep as an outdated channel, but Numeris found that the channel reaches 84% of Canadians. We believe that it’s an undervalued channel and sharing some key highlights of the Numeris data in the carousel below. The most interesting trends? 1. Canadians are digitally streaming radio Yes people are streaming more from their phone - but a significant portion of Canadians are actually streaming AM/FM radio! Digital streaming of radio stations can contribute up to 24% of listening in English markets and up to 27% of listening in Montreal. Digital is being used to access the “analog” radio stations that consumers love. 2. Canadian radio listeners are listening to an hour of radio every single day. The average that Numeris measured was across all markets, listeners are tuning in for 7.6 hours a week. In markets like Montreal Francophones, that number jumps up to 9 hours every week! 3. There is an opportunity to advertise when other channels may not be as effective. When you examine channels like Linear TV, CTV, or even paid social (to an extent), consumers are less likely to see your ads when they are out of home commuting or at work. 67% of radio listening happens out of home, meaning that radio is reaching consumers exactly when other channels are decreasing in effectiveness!
