The IOC and the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Alicante, Spain. The agreement recognises the connection between sport and intellectual property. It aims to strengthen Olympic brand protection by raising awareness and building capacity in intellectual property and sport-related matters. Protecting the Olympic brand is critical not only to preserving the values of the Olympic Games, but also to supporting athletes and the Olympic solidarity funding model. The EUIPO has already played a key role in supporting the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is continuing to assist ahead of Milano Cortina 2026, helping combat counterfeiting and media piracy. The agreement was signed by Mariam Mahdavi, IOC Director of Legal Affairs, and João Negrão, Executive Director of the EUIPO. #Olympics

The Olympic Flame for Milano Cortina 2026 Has Been Lit in Ancient Olympia Today, the Olympic flame was lit in Ancient Olympia, marking the start of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch Relay. This symbolic moment begins the flame’s journey from Greece to Italy, where it will travel across all 20 regions before the Opening Ceremony on 6 February 2026. The ceremony, attended by IOC President Kirsty Coventry and other guests, reflects the enduring Olympic values of peace, unity and friendship. After travelling for around a week in Greece, the relay will cover 12,000 km and visit 60 UNESCO World Heritage Sites over 63 days in Italy, celebrating Italian culture and the spirit of the Games.
