In China, distributed renewable energy has become an increasingly important part of this transition.    Unlike large, centralized renewable power projects, distributed renewable energy is more directly connected to households, communities, and small businesses, creating a more diverse but also complex ecosystem.   As the power transition advances in China, renewables, including distributed renewable energy, face new challenges such as subsidy phase-outs, ongoing market reforms, and the need for stronger grid and storage system. Energy Foundation China works with partners to pilot and scale practical solutions that deliver real benefits to people and local communities, helping drive progress toward a low-carbon future.

Southeast Asia’s energy access story is complex. While the region is experiencing rapid economic growth, access to reliable, affordable, and clean electricity remains uneven—especially in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
