Matures MES Capability with First CFM56-7B Fan Frame Shroud Replacement Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen’s Mobile Engine Service (MES) team has successfully completed its first CFM56-7B Fan Frame Shroud replacement for an overseas customer within 11 days, demonstrating strong capability in complex engine repair with precision and reliability. The shroud replacement became necessary due to surface corrosion, handling and assembly activities impacted the outer skin, flanges and V-groove - issues that traditionally require shop visits, resulting in extended downtime and high costs. Under today’s constrained MRO and engine leasing conditions, the solution helped the customer to minimize operational disruption and optimize cost efficiency. The procedure involved extensive disassembly and reassembly of associated components, as well as the use of multiple heavy-duty special tools to rotate the engine between horizontal and vertical positions. Such tasks require not only technical expertise but also strict safety and risk management. Through detailed pre-planning and cross-department collaboration, the MES team ensured all tools, parts, and personnel were effectively coordinated. The project was completed on time and within budget, underscoring the team’s project execution maturity. This achievement expands MES’s quick-turn repair portfolio, which already includes Central Vent Tube (CVT), Turbine Rear Frame (TRF), and Fan Containment Case replacements.
