The solid performance of the Turkish national team at the current EuroBasket has once again highlighted the crucial role of talent-producing clubs in shaping long-term success. Banvit, in particular, stands out, having developed four players from the current roster, including NBA All-Star Alperen Şengün. Unfortunately, Banvit was dissolved in 2020 due to financial difficulties. This example underlines the findings of our report published on August 2 (see below), which examined the cost of youth development across Europe and demonstrated how much responsibility rests on a small group of clubs investing systematically in young talent. While the spotlight naturally falls on national team results during major tournaments, sustained international competitiveness is only possible if the foundations are supported at the club level. Ensuring financial and structural backing for talent-producing clubs is therefore not just a developmental issue but a strategic necessity for the future of European basketball.
