In this thought-provoking lecture, cultural theorist Michelle Henning dives into the complex meanings of “fix” in the context of chemical photography – from freezing a moment in time to releasing it into the world. With a wide range of photographic examples, she asks: How do photographs arrange the world? What role did photographic fixer play in both preservation and pollution? Can photography both capture reality and distort it? Join us for an evening that questions what we think we know about images, memory, and materiality. We don’t destroy – we shape how we forget, how we remember, and how we tell new stories. Das Fotografie Forum Frankfurt freut sich am 23. April um 18 Uhr Michael Kerstgens in der FFF Akademie begrüßen zu dürfen. In seinem Vortrag, der im Rahmen der aktuellen FFF-Ausstellung stattfindet, spricht der Fotograf unter anderem über zwei zentrale Projekte, die seinen partizipatorischen Ansatz in seiner Fotografie zeigen: Neues Leben. Juden. Russen. Deutsche (Kehrer Verlag, 2012) und Hartes Lebens auf der Höh‘ (Athesia-Tappeiner, 2017). Michael Kerstgens (*1960 in Wales) wuchs in Mülheim an der Ruhr auf und studierte Fotografie an der Folkwang-Hochschule (GHS) in Essen.  Mit dem Einstieg in die professionelle Fotografie arbeitete er als Fotograf in Europa, Südamerika und Afrika für Redaktionen und Firmen, spezialisiert auf kulturelle und politische Themen. Internationale Anerkennung erlangte er mit seiner Serie über den britischen Bergarbeiterstreik 1984/85. Viele Jahre war er der Fotograf des Hochseilartisten Philippe Petit. Nach ersten Lehraufträgen in Ostfriesland und Dessau war Kerstgens von 2007 bis März 2025 Professor für Fotografie an der Hochschule Darmstadt.
