From Cartagena to Nice: Challenges on the Mediterranean The third leg of the Ocean Race Europe took Boris Herrmann and TEAM MALIZIA from Cartagena to Nice. The IMOCA sailors passed numerous sun-drenched vacation destinations, from the Costa Blanca to Ibiza and Mallorca, but the warm Mediterranean climate meant one thing above all – extreme heat on board. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the crew reached the finish line in Nice in fifth place. The fourth leg from Nice to Genoa started on August 31. “We see a good chance of sailing to the front again,” said Boris Herrmann. The crew approaches the next challenge with fresh focus and high motivation and remains determined to defend its overall place at the front of the fleet. Grand opening of the new SCHÜTZ US-production plant in Kenosha, Wisconsin, conveniently located between Chicago and Milwaukee. Covering more than 370,000 square feet of production space, the new site is a major step in strengthening our footprint in North America. From here, we will supply new and Reco IBCs and plastic drums to customers across the Midwest – closer, faster and more sustainable. The opening event was attended by our CEO, Roland Strassburger as well as Frederik Wenzel, President and CEO of Schütz Container Systems. Representatives from the city and local partners were also present, highlighting the importance of the project for the region. “The City of Kenosha is pleased to welcome Schütz to our community”, said Mayor David Bogdala. “SCHÜTZ is known as a leader in industrial packaging solutions. The plant will strategically serve the Midwest, while providing a sizable investment and quality job opportunities in Kenosha.” The new state-of-the-art facility complements the 13 other sites in Schütz’s U.S. network. It embodies and emphasizes our company’s philosophy by combining customer proximity, supply security and sustainability, which is fully in line with our SCHÜTZ Green Lifecycle Management. In the fall of 2025, the Kenosha site will be expanded to include a modern facility for reconditioning used industrial packaging, which represents yet another step towards a circular economy. #schütz #schuetzpackaging #schuetzcontainersystems #reconditioning #packaging #ibc

Leg 2 – Portsmouth to Cartagena: New Challenges and Chances in the Ocean Race Europe After only four days ashore, the fleet set sail again on August 17 for the second and longest leg of the Ocean Race Europe: 1,400 nautical miles from Portsmouth to Cartagena. For TEAM MALIZIA, this stage was led by British skipper Will Harris. The team initially had a promising start but then faced tough sailing conditions. At the fly-by in Porto/Matosinhos, which marked the halftime of the second leg, they crossed the line in fourth place. In the second half of the leg the Malizians reaced the Mediterranean Sea with its warmer waters, breathtaking Orca sightings but also fierce competition. Right up to the approach to Cartagena, Team Malizia was fighting closely for fourth place but ultimately crossed the line in fifth. In the overall ranking, however, they remain in third place – and the race is still wide open. With every mile and every gust of wind, new opportunities arise to reshuffle the pack. In the evening of August 26, the sailors have started into the third leg of the Ocean Race Europe from Cartagena to Nice. From Kiel to Portsmouth: An Exciting Start to the Ocean Race Europe. The first leg of the 2025 Ocean Race Europe has been quite eventful. Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia were briefly held up by a minor technical problem at the start line, but then quickly picked up speed. They then sailed along the Danish coast, which presented rough conditions. Fortunately, the weather soon calmed down and made way for a light breeze, which gave the sailors a little more leeway. After numerous turning maneuvers, Boris and his team finally managed to catch up strongly and take third place within the first 24 hours. Completing the first 1,000 nautical miles, the Hamburg-based skipper and his team reached Portsmouth in second place – a remarkable success for the first leg. However, the competition is fierce, and the weather shuffles the cards anew every day. After a brief rest in Portsmouth, the sailors have already started into the second leg of the race and are now headed towards Portugal.
