Transforming Africa's Trade

نبذة عنا

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is the foremost Pan-African multilateral financial institution devoted to financing and promoting intra- and extra-African trade. The Bank was established in October 1993 by African governments, African private and institutional investors, and non-African investors. Its two basic constitutive documents are the Establishment Agreement, which gives it the status of an international organization, and the Charter, which governs its corporate structure and operations.

  • Africa’s investment landscape is shifting - and the 2025 Africa Investment Forum (AIF) Market Days in Rabat underscored the continent’s growing momentum. Afreximbank’s delegation, led by Mrs Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President, Intra-African Trade and Export Development, joined global investors, policymakers, and project developers to advance bankable opportunities shaping Africa’s future. This year’s AIF closed with $15.3 billion in investment interest across 39 transformative projects, signalling deep confidence in Africa’s markets and the strength of its partnerships. Under the theme “Bridging the Gap: Mobilising Private Capital to Unlock Africa’s Full Potential,” the Forum brought together more than 2,000 delegates from nearly 80 countries, including financiers, DFIs, institutional investors and entrepreneurs. Energy, transport, industrial infrastructure, and gender-inclusive financing emerged as priority areas - backed by rigorous modelling and impact assessments that resonated strongly with investors. Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, H.E. Nadia FETTAH, captured the spirit of the moment: “An Africa that embraces its ambition… that defines itself not by its constraints but by its solutions.” As a founding partner of the Africa Investment Forum, Afreximbank remains committed to mobilising capital, accelerating project bankability, and expanding opportunities for countries, businesses and communities across the continent. #Afreximbank #AfricaInvestmentForum #AIF2025 #InvestInAfrica #GlobalAfrica

  • A powerful conversation on Africa’s financial integration took centre stage last weekend at the maiden Egyptian-African Economic Conference in Cairo, where Afreximbank was represented by Executive Vice President, Global Trade Bank, Mr Haytham ElMaayergi. Joining a high-level panel chaired by H.E. Ahmed Kouchouk, Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Mr El-Maayergi underscored the urgency of fixing Africa’s fragmented payment landscape and reducing the high cost of cross-border transactions. He outlined how Afreximbank is delivering practical solutions through the Africa Trade Gateway - a fully integrated digital corridor that connects market discovery, partner verification, B2B trade, logistics, finance, and instant settlement. Through Tradar, ATG Connect, MANSA, ATEX, Pan-African Payment & Settlement System - PAPSS and the PAPSS Currency Marketplace (PACM), businesses can now complete the entire trade journey within Africa in local currencies, securely and at speed. These innovations, he noted, are shifting the continent from fragmentation to proper connectivity - enabling African companies to trade with one another as seamlessly as they do with global markets. The panel also featured Bassel Rahmy (Mesmeda), Ahmed Ragab (African Development Bank Group), and Dr Mefleh Elrashidy (Boubyan Real Estate), with Dr Ayman Abdel Wahab moderating. Africa’s financial future is digital, interoperable, and African-built. Afreximbank is laying the rails to accelerate that future. #Afreximbank

FG Gold is proud to announce it has achieved financial close and first drawdown on US$330 million in senior debt financing from Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), securing the full capital needed to build the Baomahun Gold Project in Sierra Leone. Combined with AFC’s US$100 million gold stream and mezzanine facility, the project is funded with a total of US$430 million from DFI’s including including Afreximbank’s contribution of US$75 million. This cements Baomahun as one of the most significant new mining projects in West Africa. AFC’s anchor investment played a pivotal role in mobilising additional capital from Trafigura, underscoring the confidence in Baomahun’s world-class potential and FG Gold’s commitment to African-led development. Baomahun also represents a series of firsts for Sierra Leone — from innovative financing structures to hybrid power solutions and strong community partnerships — the project is a true pioneer, establishing a new benchmark for future mining across the continent. With construction now accelerating, Baomahun remains on track for first gold and to become a major contributor to Sierra Leone’s GDP supporting hundreds of direct and indirect jobs and delivering long-term benefits to local communities. A huge and sincere thank you to our partners, stakeholders, and the Government and people of Sierra Leone for their trust and collaboration. This is more than a project — it’s a milestone for Sierra Leone and for Africa. • Afreximbank celebrates two exceptional honours bestowed in Barbados as the nation marked its 59th Independence anniversary and fourth year as a Republic. Prof Benedict Oramah, former President of Afreximbank, received The Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados – the country’s highest national distinction – for his vision, leadership, and contribution to strengthening trade and investment ties between Barbados and Afreximbank Member States. Dr. Kevin Greenidge, Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados and Afreximbank Board Member, was also awarded the Order of Freedom in recognition of his people-centred leadership in economic policy, and his role in guiding the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme with excellence and ambition. We congratulate Prof Oramah and Governor Greenidge on this well-deserved achievement – a powerful acknowledgment of their work in advancing global African engagement, trade cooperation, and sustainable economic development. #Afreximbank
