How can we secure our future? By creating resilient landscapes! The 2025 Landscape Middle East Awards recognize our NEOM Forestation Project. This pioneering project demonstrates how innovation and tradition can come together to restore landscapes in arid environments. It creates resilient ecosystems and reduces water, energy, and material consumption. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and responsible design, contributing to environmental regeneration and improving quality of life. The awards ceremony took place during the Landscape Middle East Conference under the theme "Nature & Community." It was an opportunity to share knowledge. 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟯𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗲́𝗺, 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗹, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 Although the agreement reached is considered a "minimum agreement," important progress in accelerating the implementation of the Paris Agreement is marked by it. The Global Action Agenda focuses on six key areas: - Transformation of energy, industrial, and transportation systems - Protection of forests, oceans, and biodiversity - Sustainable agriculture and food systems - Resilient cities and infrastructure - Human development integrated into climate action - Enablers: financing, technological innovation, and capacity building Financing: Mobilize $1.3 trillion annually by 2035, double adaptation funds, and establish global indicators. The challenges ahead are creating a roadmap for eliminating fossil fuels and establishing stronger legal commitments. From October 21 to 23, IDOM participated in HYDRO25, an international conference held in Thessaloniki, Greece, in collaboration with ICOLD. Experts from around the world shared solutions for energy storage and safety in hydraulic infrastructures. Our Energy and Water teams actively participated with three presentations reflecting our commitment to innovation: - Gorona del Viento hydro-wind power plant (El Hierro) – integration of renewable energy and hydraulic storage.   - 700 MW reversible pumping station in Amfilochia (Greece) – 700 MW reversible pumping station for energy management. - Upgrading of the Rumblar dam (Spain) – application of innovative methodologies to comply with new dam safety regulations. The project combines respect for history with a vision for the future. It includes expanding the capacity to 20,000 spectators, preserving the original stands, using a lightweight structure of Chilean laminated wood from CMPC-managed forests, installing LED lighting and natural ventilation systems, and taking a comprehensive approach to sustainability and circularity. Collaborating with local partners was essential to incorporating renewable materials and strengthening the project's positive impact on the regional economy. We developed the construction system locally as well, demonstrating that a global project can be developed in line with the local way of working. We develop our global vision based on an understanding of the local context. Un proyecto que combina respeto por la historia con visión de futuro: ampliación del aforo a 20.000 espectadores, conservación del graderío original, estructura ligera con madera laminada chilena procedente de bosques gestionados por CMPC, iluminación LED, ventilación natural y un enfoque integral de sostenibilidad y circularidad. La colaboración con socios locales fue clave para incorporar materiales renovables y reforzar el impacto positivo en la economía regional. El sistema constructivo fue también desarrollado localmente, demostrando que un proyecto global puede desarrollarse con la forma de trabajar del lugar en el que se ubica. Desde el entendimiento de lo local construimos esa visión global. 𝗜𝗗𝗢𝗠 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗛𝟮𝗔𝗧𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗛𝗬𝗧𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗦.𝗔. This project will transform the former coal-fired power plant site in Sines (Portugal) into a flexible 100 MW green hydrogen production facility, powered exclusively by solar and wind energy. Our team has been selected to provide engineering and specialized support services, leading technical coordination between manufacturers and engineering teams, interface management, and assisting in defining the execution strategy. 𝗜𝗗𝗢𝗠 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 (𝗣𝗠𝗖) 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗕'𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶-𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻   SSAB will build a state-of-the-art electrified steel mill in Luleå, Sweden, that combines cutting-edge technology in a unique way. With the new technology, SSAB will lower costs, shorter lead times and increase its ability to handle variations in demand. When SSAB closes the current production, carbon dioxide emissions in Luleå will be largely eliminated.   The new Luleå mill will have a capacity of 2.5 mton/year and consist of two electric arc furnaces, advanced secondary metallurgy, a direct strip rolling mill to produce SSABs specialty products, and a cold rolling complex to serve the mobility segment with a broader offering of premium products. The new mill will be supplied with fossil free sponge iron and recycled scrap.   IDOM has developed the early engineering stages of the cold mill complex covering the FEL2 stage, Basic Engineering and Pre-Execution activities including designs and basic engineering, OEM coordination and technical support and project licenses application assistance. Now SSAB and IDOM are moving forward together for the start of Detail Engineering execution.   In parallel to the cold mill complex engineering, SSAB selected IDOM as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the overall new mini-mill which includes the melting and both the hot and cold rolling complex. This PMC role of IDOM will enable SSAB to monitor, control and manage the new mini-mill project, as well as the different project stakeholders participating along with the whole project.   “It is an honor for IDOM to continue cooperating with one of the most important and committed steelmakers in the world decarbonization and to participate in such a challenging project.
