Last week, my friend Harro and I came together to give a B2B start-up some marketing advice. Harro is co-founder of UPFRONT, a nutrition company and currently the hottest B2C brand in the Dutch market (in my humble opinion). They grew to an estimated ~90M in revenue in 5 years without external investment. And for the first 3 years, they didn’t spend a dime on advertising. UpFront can teach you A LOT about good marketing. Especially if you’re in B2B.👇 1. Show the faces behind the brand      UpFront built its entire brand around the people who work there. In every piece of content, you’ll see at least one real team member. Nothing builds more trust and relatability than showcasing the people behind the business. 2. Create content people love     UpFront absolutely kills it with their content. They create content that adds educational value - like podcasts and videos that help you eat and live healthier - and content that’s funny and relatable for their audience, like a gym sketch. The main driver of their brand is non-commercial content that people actually love to consume. 3. Show the real journey     UpFront takes their audience on the journey of building their business. And not just the good moments, they share the mistakes and struggles too. Consumers crave authenticity and want to hear the whole story. That’s how you build genuine trust. 4. Build a media machine     UpFront took their marketing extremely serious from day one. Developing their product was just as important as letting the world know they existed. They pushed out content constantly from day one. —— I believe B2B is always a bit behind B2C. So if you really want to leave your competition in the dust, learn from the best B2C marketers. You don't fix weak sales with more countries. Here's why: At the Webwinkel Vakdagen, I spoke to dozens of (dutch) sellers. And I noticed something: Many are still at the beginning. → Not even doing 10K/month in NL → Still figuring out their offer → No real proof of product-market fit And yet... many were already planning their next move: Amazon.de (expaning to Germany) Because they believe: → Bigger market → More volume → More growth Sounds good, but it doesn’t work like that. If you haven’t won in NL, you won’t win in DE. You don’t scale what isn’t working yet. You fix it first. Then you grow. Step 1 → Win locally. Step 2 → Scale globally. Learning? Hit at least 50-80K/month in your home market before even thinking about international expansion. PS: What’s your threshold for going cross-border?

Albert Heijn is not just a supermarket. They’re a food tech company. It always surprises me when I hear that the CEO of a company has no interest in or knowledge of technology. Because tech is the future. Using technology as an accelerator for sustainable business is inevitable. That’s why I immensely enjoyed this conversation with Anita Scholte op Reimer, Director of Sustainability & Quality at Albert Heijn and frank van de ven, Founder and CEO of i-team Global, a global company producing cleaning equipment, with a long history of sustainability. Anita explains the influence of tech on sustainable topics such as preventing food waste by creating algorithms and dynamic pricing in stores. Scooperz and Avans Hogeschool are kicking off a brand-new influencer marketing module. As part of the Digital Nomads minor, students will spend two weeks between Granada, Spain and Breda, Netherlands, diving into real brand cases and learning the ins and outs of influencer marketing. This feels like something the industry has been missing. Too many talented graduates understand marketing theory but have never worked with creators or dealt with real campaign constraints. Since 2024 Netherlands is part of the Billion Shipments club, alongside other 7 countries in Europe, meaning an average of : 4 million shipments day (working days, 250) 2.7 million shipments day (calendar days, 365) The impact on the First & Last Mile is undoubtedly crazy if you think at surface and population (41,543km² & 18m people) : - 24,000 shipments per km²/year - 55 shipments per person/year Let's focus on the shipments/km² ratio : If there were 1 Parcel Locker per km², this machine would handle 24,000 shipments per year, or 65 per day. While the amount of APMs should be +40,000 (crazy 😱), the amount of vans 🚚 on our streets would decrease significantly due to the efficiency gains that a Locker Network brings. 🏡 1 Driver in Home Delivery mode: 125 deliveries per day 🛅 1 Driver in Locker Delivery mode: 500-1000 deliveries per day If we compare this calculation to 1000 shipments per day, the Locker Delivery option requires a quarter, if not an eighth, of the delivery vehicles. Looking at the latest figures of The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, OOH in the Netherlands hit 6.4% adoption in 2024 which can translate into a few tens of millions of parcels per year, but growing.
