🌟 Cannes Lions 2025 highlights from the Croisette – what a week! From Agentic Agents and AI buzz to Cannes’ legendary beach parties, here are my personal top moments: 1. AI & Innovation Dominate This year, the shift from buzz to action was clear: AI moved beyond talk into real-world implementation across AdTech ▶️ “AI is absolutely going to dominate conversations—and rightly so. But… it’s a tool, not a replacement.” That said, we still need to stay critical: As many AI implementations in AdTech continue to optimize outdated mechanics — automating weak data signals, while leaving the human behind. Cannes showed progress, yes. But if we don’t rethink what we build on, we risk scaling the wrong things, faster. 2. A New Era for Agencies Cannes felt like a turning point—old-school Mad Men nostalgia gave way to tech-led strategy. Major players like Amazon, Google & Meta unleashed on the Riviera while independent consultancies and retail-media innovations stepped forward. 3.Sport & Celeb Energy Stagwell’s Sport Beach was buzzing with athletes-turned-brand-builders—Serena, Megan Rapinoe, Carmelo Anthony—and the event even pushed press freedom in news funding discussions. 4. Creativity Meets Culture W&V perfectly described Cannes as "more than sun, rosé, and panels"—a true barometer for industry excellence, where creativity converges with purpose. 5. Welect & Meaningful Conversations What stood out most? The real conversations. Our Welect story - on human-centered, respectful advertising—resonated strongly with brands, agencies, publishers, and platforms alike. How has the share of organic vs. paid traffic evolved in the past few years? Out of the many great questions Yifan ZHANG Anthony M. and Grégoire Virepinte were asked at AppTweak's Amplify event in Paris last week, this was probably my favourite to answer. The others rightfully shared their experiences and demonstrated this share varies depending on your app's vertical. Traffic for utility apps remains search heavy and therefore organic-led. For fashion, the mix is more balanced, and seasonal. Then I suggested a different route: The way we measure paid and organic is blurry. MMPs label any unattributed traffic as organic, even if it was in fact the result of a paid effort such as an Out Of Home campaign. App Store Connect includes traffic from Apple Ads in the Browse or Search traffic source depending on the ad placement. So why do we keep insisting on labelling traffic as organic or paid? Of course, teams should not give up on the multiple measurement methods at their disposal. But getting them to communicate and collaborate around a shared metric is the best way to have organic and paid collaborate and augment each other, not compete and argue over who deserves credit. While there is no perfect media mix, every marketing team should align paid and organic efforts to fill the gaps in the user journey.
