On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education & Chairman of the Commission, led a delegation to the 2025 UNESCO Digital Learning Week at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, where ministers and global educational leaders gathered to discuss the future of digital learning. He reaffirmed, in a statement, Ghana's commitment to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into our educational system, as part of the country's transformational agenda to revamp the education sector. He highlighted the progress made since 2019, including the integration of AI competencies into the basic education curriculum and embedding AI across STEM disciplines in basic, secondary, and tertiary institutions. Hon. Iddrisu further announced the launch of Ghana's National AI Strategy, aimed at training 1 million youth in AI and 10,000 AI researchers by 2033. The Ghanaian delegation to the global forum was comprehensive, underscoring the multi-stakeholder approach to this national priority. The Minister was accompanied by the Ag. Vision The vision of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO is to be a highly progressive National Commission that improves access and participation in programmes and activities within UNESCO’s fields of competence in Ghana. Mission To promote UNESCO’s objectives and ideals in Ghana as a contribution to global peace, poverty alleviation, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through Education, the Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information. Functions The Commission performs the following functions: Acts as an advisory body to the government in determining policies with regard to UNESCO and its programmes. Serves as a liason agency involving Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in UNESCO activities for the advancement of Education, the Sciences, Culture and Communication, with the aim of advancing mutual knowledge and understanding of UNESCO’s work towards the common welfare of human-kind. Disseminates information from and to UNESCO. Exchanges information and experiences with its counterparts in Member States of the Organization. Fosters close co-operation between state agencies and services, professionals and other universities as well General Conferences and other inter-governmental meetings convened by UNESCO, in the preparations of Ghana’s position papers by preparing the contribution of Government to the work of these meetings. Participants in the search for candidates for vacant UNESCO posts financed under the regular programme or from extra- budgetary resources, and in the placement of UNESCO Fellowship holders. Participates in the planning and execution of activities entrusted to UNESCO which are undertaken with the assistance of the United Nations in Ghana.

Reviving the art of our oral traditions! Yesterday, the Ghana Commission for UNESCO had the opportunity to participate in the launch of the storytelling series "By the Fireside". The launch was organized by the National Folklore Board under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts. Statements were made by the Ag. Deputy Secretary-General (Gen. Operations) of the Commission, Dr. Naazia Ibrahim (on behalf of the Ag. Secretary-General); the Executive Director for the Bureau of Ghana Languages, @Ebenezer Ahiator, Esq., who represented the Hon. Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and other dignitaries.
