When Sam Altman's response, a leading big tech CEO, went viral on the social network X this April, the world began to grasp the rapid growth of AI tools and its associated costs of usage. According to him, a simple "thank you" and "please" can actually cost tens of millions of dollars. With estimates suggesting that each Chat GPT interaction consumes about 0.3 kilowatt-hours of electricity, a new discussion is emerging within the tech ecosystem-focusing on responsible forecasting, optimized use, and critical evaluation of the necessity of AI. As the rapid evolution of AI tools is reshaping our industry, we have to ensure that it remains a generator of knowledge and efficiency, not of uncontrolled costs. With that momentum comes a growing responsibility - to use this technology wisely, sustainably, and with purpose. At M&I Systems Group, and through our member tech company TIAC d.o.o., we closely follow both global trends and local implementation. What we’re seeing is clear: ·     Developers who truly understand and strategically apply AI tools achieve higher efficiency and smarter resource use. ·      AI works best when embedded in a culture of learning, not just automation. ·     The future isn’t in faster code alone - it’s in building platforms that scale across industries, responsibly. While big tech explores nuclear power to fuel AI growth, the rest of us must ask: How can we build AI systems that are not just powerful, but also purposeful? That question defines the next chapter of our work. It’s not just about performance anymore. It’s about balance. Intention. Leadership. This leads us to another hot topic in the IT world, the first AI programming assistant has emerged from OpenAI's laboratory, symbolically named "Codex". This new tool writes, tests, and debugs code in an enhanced and, for the first time, isolated environment, taking over tedious tasks and accelerating software development. There is fundamental optimism that "Codex" should be the awaited turning point - a framework for developing a new programming culture of concept and creativity. In the end, even Sam Altman downplayed the severity of his dystopian response, concluding that those "tens of millions of dollars are well spent," hinting at the beginning of a new era—an era of increased awareness of the interconnected ecological, human, and financial impacts between humans and artificial intelligence.
