Gemma Harris spoke with Emma Redmond earlier today at the AI Privacy Hackathon event run by Open AI in Dublin. Gemma discussed the role the Data Protection Commission plays in Ireland and globally on AI and emerging technologies.

Commissioners Des Hogan, Dale Sunderland and Niamh Sweeney attended the European Data Protection Board December Plenary which took place yesterday and today in Brussels. The Commissioners wish to thank colleagues across the EDPB and the EDPB Secretariat for a successful and productive year. We look forward to continuing this important work together in 2026.

🗣️ Last week, Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Dolan participated in the panel "It’s All About the Bots: Generative AI and the Next Generation”, hosted by Bird & Bird in their Dublin offices. The panel explored the protection of children in the AI era and the need for a child-centric approach by policy makers, regulators, educators, parents, and digital service providers. 🗣️ The DPC were delighted to present at the Joint Managerial Body (JMB) Education and Law Day in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone. Commissioners for Data Protection Dale Sunderland and Niamh Sweeney met with Michael McGrath, EU Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, last week at Europe House in Dublin. As part of his portfolio, Commissioner McGrath has responsibility for data protection. The Commissioners discussed areas of mutual interest and look forward to continued close cooperation with the European Commission, including at EDPB level.

A fantastic day at our Kick Start Compliance sports conference today at Croke Park. This all island conference focussing on data protection within sport has been run in collaboration with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Today’s conference was opened this morning by Des, Caroline (ICO) and Ellen Hayes from Sport Ireland
