Before the story reached streaming audiences, our team rapidly mobilized a multidisciplinary investigation—reviewing millions of records and delivering findings that supported decisive governance action during a critical moment for the business. • Meet Fiona Hansen FCA, Head of Valuation Advisory in Australia, based in Melbourne. Fiona won the “Excellence in Financial Leadership” award at the SAICA South African in Australia Awards. This significant honour speaks to the calibre of our leadership team. We sat down with her to talk about her leadership journey, her experiences at FTI Consulting and her outlook for the year ahead. What does the South African in Australia Award for “Excellence in Financial Leadership” mean to you? Fiona: This award is deeply meaningful to me, as it represents the culmination of many years of dedication, study, volunteer work and perseverance. Careers in finance often take time to reach a point of real impact, and this recognition feels like the moment when those efforts have come together, and I am acknowledged as a leader. It reflects not only my individual achievements, but also the values, skills and experiences developed throughout my career. I am truly grateful for the guidance of my mentors and for the significance this recognition holds in my professional journey. How has your team evolved in your seven years at FTI Consulting? Fiona: When I joined FTI Consulting, there was no Valuations team, and we built it from the ground up by recruiting skilled professionals and establishing the FTI Consulting brand in non-dispute business valuations. What began with smaller engagements has grown into winning sizeable, complex mandates from well-regarded clients who now seek us out to solve challenging problems, which has been highly rewarding. What advice would you offer those starting a career in business valuations? Fiona: As with any career, it takes a certain type of person to excel in business valuations. 1. Curiosity beyond the numbers: Business valuations require an understanding of qualitative factors such as management quality, market conditions, competition and broader economic influences. 2. Attention to detail: Even small changes or errors can have a significant impact on valuation outcomes. 3. Commitment to learning: The finance world is constantly evolving, making continuous learning essential. 4. Patience in career progression: Building a strong foundation of skills and experience is more valuable than rapid advancement. What are you looking forward to this year at FTI Consulting? Fiona: I am looking forward to continuing to build on what we have established so far, protecting and enhancing our fantastic team culture, developing the careers of my team members and winning many more challenging and rewarding matters whilst continuing to exceed the expectations of our clients. What are you passionate about when you are not working? Fiona: I have two seemingly contrasting passions: health & fitness and fine dining. I particularly enjoy the blending of cuisines and the high-quality food Australia is known for, and I’m gradually working my way through Melbourne’s outstanding restaurant scene.
