The Labour Codes coming into effect from 21𝐬𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 2025 have created one common concern across HR, payroll, compliance, and leadership teams. What changes now, and what needs attention first. The shift is big. Twenty nine earlier laws have been merged into four codes, and this means the way organisations handle wages, benefits, contracts, licenses, and day to day compliance will evolve. Here are some of the updates every employer should be aware of: • 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰 The definition of employees and workers has widened. Roles across supervision, management, administration, and technical functions are included. • 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 Organisations working across multiple States will now fall under Central jurisdiction, while others continue with State rules. • 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 Basic Pay, DA, and Retaining Allowance must form at least half of the total salary. This directly affects PF, gratuity, bonus, and other statutory payouts. • 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐝 Full and final settlement will need to be completed within two working days.
