Last month, Terumo welcomed representatives from the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Tokyo, Japan, including H.E. Mr. Baraka Haran Luvanda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ms. Edna Chuku, Counsellor Economic Affairs, and Mr. Kazuma Shirai, Senior Administrative Officer.
The visit focused on introducing our public-private #partnership initiatives, capacity-building efforts, and the role of medical technology in supporting #healthcare development across #EastAfrica. We discussed how the PCI training infrastructure we have built in Kenya over the past three years could serve as a model for neighboring countries such as Tanzania and Ethiopia.
We also shared progress on a new demonstration project funded by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and implemented by Terumo Corporation, Terumo BCT and Terumo EMEA, to establish a comprehensive care pathway for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Kenya, Uganda, and Côte d’Ivoire. This initiative will enhance diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of complications, while strengthening national blood supply systems through the introduction of advanced automated processing technology.
This exchange reaffirmed the importance of cross-sector #collaboration in strengthening healthcare systems. By working together, we aim to support ongoing efforts to strengthen medical training and patient care across East Africa. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to the representatives from the Embassy of Tanzania for the meaningful dialogue and look forward to continued collaboration.
