    When Dr. Markus Bolte first joined AlixPartners, he was most intrigued by the firm’s focus on value, impact, and inclusion. “I didn’t know AlixPartners very well at the time, it was kind of a hidden champion. I think what struck me most was the people,” said Markus, now a Partner in the firm’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications group. “It’s nice to know that we’re part of a big family helping each other out to succeed for the client.” That “big family” feeling is something Markus is quite used to. He and his wife share nine children and stepchildren, after all. So, when the firm formed the Caregivers and Parents (originally Working Parents) Employee Resource Group (CAPE) in 2019, Markus was first in line to help improve work-life balance policies, advocate for additional parental benefits, and contribute to various social impact initiatives. But while Markus was making an impact on the firm, he didn’t expect the CAPE community to make one on him too. “I call 2021 my terrible year. I was facing separation and divorce, there was the COVID-19 lockdown, there was the death of my father, and we had a big natural disaster in my neighborhood that caused huge flooding,” he said. “My colleagues really helped me in that crucial phase by providing focus and purpose through meaningful client work, but also by the amount of empathy and understanding they shared with me.” Now as CAPE’s Global Leader, Markus is making sure to pay the kindness he received forward. “Parents and Caregivers provide a crucial part of the fabric of society that you can’t put a price tag on. People don’t get paid for it other than through hugs, kisses, and slobbery faces,” he said. The personal satisfaction of seeing his colleagues thrive, both in family and work settings, is why Markus and his leadership team are working to ensure parents and caregivers continue to receive the recognition and support they deserve at AlixPartners along their individual parenting and caregiving journeys. From family planning to navigating the complexities that come with caregiving, to dealing with the emotional, financial and organizational changes associated with divorce, the ERG hopes to provide a support system that allows people to show up to the firm as their best selves—both personally and professionally. “ERGs have that particular purpose of making sure that people can be human first and effective and productive employees second,” Markus said. “That’s part of the vision, to keep us as a company where people do not feel they have to choose between one or the other.”

    Alexa Angotti Dineen’s got her hand on the pulse of everything that’s going on. As the mother of four young boys, she has to. “I’m the fixer, the problem solver and the ‘Manager of Chaos’,” Alexa said. “Every day is so different with my kids, and I absolutely love it.” That chaos, Alexa mentioned, doesn’t stop at home. A Partner at AlixPartners, Alexa serves as a “catch all” for all things Risk Advisory. She is a strategist who drives growth for our people, practices and the firm, oversees day-to-day operations and serves as support to various colleagues. Since joining the firm as an Associate in 2013, she’s helped build the practice into what it is today. “I have meaningful and trusted relationships across the firm that provide me with a line of sight beyond the borders of Risk. When I see an opportunity for improvement or learn about best practices other teams deploy, I want all of us to take note and apply them,” she said. That kind of foresight sparked her steady rise at the firm. And while Alexa enjoyed her evolving roles and greater responsibilities at the firm, she desired one that was more permanent–Mom. With the help of the firm’s benefits package, Alexa welcomed her first son, Paddy, in March 2019. This experience changed her life forever, both personally and professionally. Over the past six years, she’s helped expand the firm’s breastmilk shipping program, assisted with a strategic reorganization, developed a Parental Leave Check-In process within the Risk department and assisted in the rollout of our enhanced parental benefits package. Juggling her role at the firm, advocacy and four boys isn’t easy, but Alexa makes it work.
