Overview
Since 1972, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.
About The Role
The Senior Vice President, Research and Impact (SVP-RI) will support the organization’s strategic initiatives by leading advancement research and evaluation and measuring and enhancing impact. You will have the opportunity to blend strategic collaboration, rigorous research, and impact analysis to deepen the organization’s influence and effectiveness. You will directly interface with leaders at CHI and across our 34 sites to provide technical training and support, ensuring we have consistency across our data and reporting. In this role you will lead the development and implementation of the organization’s Knowledge Management System that will serve as the hub for all organizational learning and will influence our practice internally and support our thought leadership externally. The SVP-RI will directly manage a team of four and report directly to the Chief Strategy Officer as a key member of the senior leadership team.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Research and Evaluation
Lead the organization’s research and evaluation activities to measure the impact of programs and initiatives
Develop and implement evaluation frameworks and methodologies that inform strategic decision-making and continuous improvement
Ensure the effective use of data and evidence in program development, policy advocacy, and strategic planning
Oversee the development of research projects, including design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings
Manage relationships with research institutions, universities, and other external research partners
Impact Measurement
Develop and implement strategies to measure and enhance the organization’s impact
Create systems and processes for capturing, analyzing, and reporting on impact data
Leverage impact data to inform strategic decisions and improve program outcomes
Develop impact reports and other communication materials to share findings with internal and external stakeholders
Develop and implement our first federation wide Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) system
Knowledge Management
Design and implement both internal and external comprehensive knowledge management infrastructures that support the organization’s strategic objectives
Oversee the development and maintenance of systems for capturing, organizing, and disseminating knowledge and best practices across the organization
Promote a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing among staff and stakeholders
Leadership and Management
Provide strategic leadership and direction to a team of professionals focused on research and impact across our federation
Participate in the organization’s strategic planning process and contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives
Communicate the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals to internal and external stakeholders
Manage, mentor and develop your people, leading your team to success as a player-coach
Other Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Chief Strategy Officer and senior leadership team to ensure alignment of strategic initiatives with organizational goals
Manage budgets, staffing, and administrative aspects related to strategic partnerships, research, and impact
Produce and oversee the production of publications, presentations, and other resources that disseminate knowledge and best practices
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong leadership and management skills with a proven ability to build and lead effective teams
Demonstrated experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships in the social determinants of health arena.
Proficiency in research and evaluation methodologies, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches
Familiarity with our tools including Tableau, Power Bi, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) or other case management systems
Experience in measuring and enhancing impact in a non-profit or similar setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence a diverse range of stakeholders
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
Informed or built knowledge management systems through Sharepoint, Confluence,
Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Public Policy, Social Science, Education, Non-Profit Management, or a related field
At least ten (10) years of experience in strategic partnerships, research, evaluation, and impact measurement
Proven experience in a leadership role within a non-profit or similar organization
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel once per year to New York City in January for our annual in-person traditions
This role is remote with the expectation to travel up to 20%-25% of the time for site focused work, key leadership meetings and professional conferences
