NEW TEAM MEMBER WELCOME

Welcome our new Chief Operating Officer, Jacob Cool. Retiring after a 23-year Army career, Jacob served in various positions at U.S. Special Operations Command, Joint Special Operations Command, NATO School Oberammergau, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and South Korea. He completed a U.S. Army War College Fellowship at the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy and earned an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Joyful Heart Deliveries

Last year, 28 Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC showed the true meaning of community service by volunteering over 700 hours with Joyful Heart Deliveries, assembling over 1,000 Christmas stockings for fellow troops deployed overseas. Their compassion and commitment brought comfort and cheer to their brothers and sisters in uniform during a difficult time of year when they couldn’t be home for the holidays.

Due to your generous support, these 28 Marines that volunteered received free flights home - some for the first time in over a year. Many reunited with loved ones for birthdays, holidays, or special milestones, including meeting new nieces and nephews for the first time.

We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Joyful Heart Deliveries, whose work continues to bring hope to Marine communities.

HERO HIGHLIGHT

On August 1, U.S. Army Specialist Mark Chandler returned home to Fort Bliss, Texas from Poland to be with his family for the birth of twins after volunteering 25 hours at the USO Poland. His story received media coverage in articles and local news outlets.

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything that you have done for me and my family! Your organization has been a huge blessing to me. Being able to be home with my family after being away so long has been outstanding! I cannot thank you enough. God bless you for all you do for service members! I hope one day I can repay you for your kindness. I truly am grateful for Miles for Military!”

BOOTS ON BASE: BRAGG & LEJEUNE

Miles for Military team visited Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune again this month to expand awareness.

At Fort Bragg, we briefed our program at the XVIII Airborne Corps weekly Welcome Reception to over 200 Soldiers new to the installation. We also met with the U.S. Air Force Airmen Leadership School on Pope Army Airfield.

We additionally met with Miles for Military recipients like the one pictured, Specialist Julisa Sandoval where she will fly home to New York next month to visit her whole family and attend her sister’s engagement party. She volunteered 25 hours at the installation’s Morale, Welfare, & Recreation family events.

At Camp Lejeune, we educated representatives from three Marine Expeditionary Units on our program. We also reconnected with local nonprofits and discussed opportunities to increase volunteer participation strategies. The visit surfaced key challenges, like limited transportation for junior enlisted, and reinforced the value of working through trusted on-base partners.
