About the Opportunity

An international contractor delivering large‑scale, mission‑critical facilities is seeking an accomplished Senior Design Manager to lead the design and technical delivery of a major Hyperscale Data Centre project in the Netherlands.

The role sits at the centre of project success, ensuring that all CSA and MEP‑intensive systems are fully coordinated, technically robust, compliant with Dutch regulations, and integrated into a buildable and commissionable solution.

This position requires an experienced design leader with strong MEP background, excellent stakeholder management skills, and proven delivery capability on complex, high‑performance buildings.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership & Coordination

• Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary design teams across architectural, structural, MEP, controls, fire, and specialist packages.
• Deliver fully integrated, clash‑free design outputs aligned with programme and procurement milestones.

Technical Governance

• Maintain ownership of the technical integrity of the design from concept through commissioning.
• Review and validate Employer’s Requirements, performance specifications, design deliverables, and compliance documentation.
• Manage design freezes, change control, and design responsibility matrices.

MEP‑Intensive, Mission‑Critical Delivery

• Oversee integration of mechanical and electrical systems, including cooling systems, power distribution, containment, controls, and critical pathways.
• Ensure design supports commissioning, testing, and operational readiness.

Design & Build Environment

• Manage workflows with novated consultants, specialist subcontractors, and package designers.
• Translate complex technical requirements into buildable, commercially viable design solutions.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the primary technical interface with client engineering teams, statutory authorities, and external reviewers.
• Communicate technical matters clearly to both engineering and non‑engineering audiences.

Candidate Profile

Essential

• Demonstrated experience as a Senior Design Manager (or equivalent) on large, complex, MEP‑intensive projects.
• Strong technical foundation in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑disciplinary design in a Design & Build delivery model.
• Familiarity with BIM‑led coordination, digital design workflows, and information management tools.
• Ability to lead technical assurance, risk review, and design governance processes.

Preferred

• Prior experience on hyperscale data centre projects, advanced manufacturing, pharma, or other mission‑critical facilities.
• Experience designing or delivering buildings with high‑resilience requirements (Tier III/Tier IV, redundant systems, critical cooling, power).
• Strong commissioning awareness and understanding of integrated systems testing.
• Experience working in the Dutch construction environment, with understanding of local regulations, authorities, and codes.
