On 26th November, we had the incredible #opportunity to attend WECON Movement, organized by Change Mechanics Pvt Ltd in collaboration with British Council. It was one of the most inspiring gatherings for #innovators and #startups in Pakistan. The day was packed with #brilliant ideas, thought-provoking discussions, and meaningful #connections that reminded us how powerful #collaboration and creativity can be. We were especially honored to be interviewed by Startupdotpk, where we shared the purpose of Gesture Vox, our journey, and our vision to make assistive technology accessible and impactful for the deaf and mute community. Experiences like these not only fuel our #motivation but also #strengthen our belief in the difference technology can make in people’s lives. Days like WECON are a reminder that with #passion, innovation, and collaboration, the future of assistive tech in Pakistan is brighter than ever.

Pakistan’s First AI-Based Sign Language Translator Using Smart Gloves
About us
Gesture Vox is Pakistan’s first smart glove system that translates sign language into speech using artificial intelligence. Our goal is simple: to help people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing communicate more easily with the world around them. The system works through wearable gloves fitted with special sensors that can detect hand movements. These movements are then processed using machine learning models and instantly converted into spoken words. This allows sign language users to express themselves in real time, without needing a translator. We started Gesture Vox with a clear purpose — to make communication more inclusive, accessible, and independent. The gloves are designed with care, using ESP32 microcontrollers, flex sensors, and motion sensors. We trained our AI model using a large dataset collected with the help of real volunteers performing Pakistani Sign Language (PSL) gestures. Right now, Gesture Vox can recognize six key phrases commonly used in everyday conversations. Our system has shown strong accuracy and is ready to grow with more gestures and more languages. Whether it’s in a school, a hospital, or a workplace, Gesture Vox can help bridge communication gaps and bring people closer. We believe that technology should empower everyone — especially those who need it most. We’re currently in our development phase and are looking for passionate individuals, partners, and supporters who believe in using technology for good. Gesture Vox isn’t just a product — it’s a step toward a more connected and compassionate world

When Communication Breaks Down, Lives Are Affected We recently came across the story of Richard MacQueen, a deaf man from Dundee who was mistakenly told he had #HIV after a hospital failed to provide a qualified British Sign Language #BSL #interpreter. While receiving test results for #pneumonia, a nurse with limited BSL skills signed “HIV” with a thumbs-up, a gesture Richard interpreted as a #positive #diagnosis. For two distressing days, he believed his life was over, until a #qualified interpreter clarified that his results were, in fact, negative. This incident highlights a critical issue: the lack of #accessible and #accurate #communication support for deaf individuals in #healthcare settings. It’s not just a communication gap , it’s a human gap that technology and empathy must work together to close. At Gesture Vox, we are committed to addressing this challenge. By integrating gesture recognition and #AI-driven translation, GestureVox aims to create a real-time communication bridge between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and the hearing community. Our vision is to ensure that no message, especially in #critical moments, is ever lost in translation. #Technology alone can’t replace human connection, but it can empower understanding. Every gesture, every sign, every expression deserves to be seen, heard, and understood.

We had the incredible opportunity to showcase our project, Gesture Vox , at #AI-Wrapper 2025 conducted by Ignite and Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Pakistan, held at National Incubation Center Islamabad (H-9), a national platform that brought together 1712 teams from 106 cities, submitting 2889 projects across diverse categories. In our domain, #EdTech, we competed among 787 incredible projects from across Pakistan and proudly secured the #8th position in the #Regional Round! Although we didn’t qualify for the final round, the experience was immensely rewarding, filled with #learning, #networking, and #inspiration from some of the brightest minds in #AI and #innovation. A heartfelt thank you to Yaruq Nadeem and National Science & Technology Park for their continuous #guidance and for providing us the opportunity to #grow, #learn, and #compete on such high stages. Here’s to #learning, #building, and coming back #stronger! #AIWrapper2025 #GestureVox #EdTech #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #NICIslamabad #Hatch8 #LearningJourney

Every idea starts with a moment of #realization. For us, it was witnessing how communication barriers continue to isolate members of the #deaf #community, not because of a lack of #ability, but because of a lack of accessibility. We knew #technology could do more. So, we set out to create something that could bridge that gap, transforming sign language into speech and speech into understanding. That’s how #GestureVox was born. It wasn’t just about building a device; it was about building a bridge, a bridge of communication, #inclusion, and #empowerment. What inspired your first #innovation? Proud moment for Gesture Vox! On 20th August 2025, we had the privilege of presenting our startup Gesture Vox: Pakistani Sign Language to Speech System, at the Digital Inclusivity in Higher Education Workshop hosted at NUST Business School in collaboration with the University of Dundee Business School and funded by the British Council . Our session, Assistive Technology Projects at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), showcased innovative student-led solutions designed to make education and society more inclusive for persons with disabilities. We shared: 🔹 How Gesture Vox was conceptualized and developed. 🔹 The technical journey of building wearable gloves with sensors, real-time machine learning, and speech output. 🔹 The impact: enabling communication accessibility for the deaf and mute community in Pakistan. The workshop brought together faculty, NGOs, and industry leaders, creating valuable conversations around inclusivity, accessibility, and collaboration. We are deeply thankful to National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), NUST Business School, Menahel Hamid, and the British Council for providing this platform, and to all those striving to build a more accessible and inclusive digital future.
