Yesterday, my team alerted me about two TikTok videos suggesting that payments using Bank Islam’s mobile app were slow or problematic. While waiting for a coat of paint to dry—quite literally—I decided to reach out to the content creators for clarification. The first video originated from a petrol station in Batu Pahat. After a discussion with the station manager, it was confirmed that the issue stemmed from poor network coverage at the site, affecting all banking and payment apps, not just Bank Islam. She acknowledged that the caption may have been misleading and agreed to advise her team to remove the post. The second video involved a gold shop in Kuala Lumpur. After connecting with the content owner, she sincerely apologized and clarified, “So far kami tiada masalah apa-apa dengan Bank Islam. Ayat itu sekadar content semata-mata.” I appreciated her honesty and offered a few suggestions for future content creation. Both videos were removed not long after. While social media is a powerful platform for expression and creativity, it’s important to remain truthful and responsible. Content should not come at the expense of others, especially when it may cause undue harm or misrepresent facts. Let’s strive to build a more respectful and honest digital space for all.
