The rapid evolution of image processing, voice technology that runs locally, and especially new interfaces like Model Context Protocol (MCP) and AI agents. These are about to reshape how audiences discover and engage with news. The organizations that seize this moment will transform how they create, distribute and monetize content, while those waiting on the sidelines risk becoming obsolete. It's not so much about technical specs, but about readers reconnecting with news through personalized experiences that weren't possible before. I had the pleasure of bringing in 🤯⚡️ Tomas Seo for a lecture with my Content Engineering students at Berghs School of Communication today. "We need to prepare for the death of the article as we know it." That’s what Nikita Roy (Newsroom Robots) said at the Nordic AI in Media Summit and honestly, I haven’t stopped thinking about it. Turns out, I’m not the only one. Dr. Paul Elvers picked it up again at the New Leaders' Forum during Hamburg Media Dialogue 2025, and it hit exactly the conversation we should be having in SEO for publishers. The reality is: We’ve spent years optimizing articles, for search engines, for reach, for visibility. But what if the article isn’t the thing anymore? What if user expectations have already moved on? 📱 Conversational bots delivering knowledge on demand 🎧 Interactive formats that adapt in real time 📊 Content experiences that go far beyond text on a page And what are we still doing? Tuning headlines, writing meta titles, adjusting paragraphs, business as usual. Meanwhile, search has already shifted. Users aren’t just searching on Google anymore. They’re turning to TikTok, social platforms, AI assistants and whatever comes next. Lily Ray made this even clearer at BrightonSEO this year: The future isn’t about chasing quick SEO tricks or playing catch-up with every algorithm update. It’s about building brands people want to find. Because if no one searches for you, you simply don’t exist. So here’s my take: Let’s start creating content that’s designed to stay relevant, no matter where or how people are searching. How do we move beyond the article and build the next generation of search-worthy content?
