🤝It’s week 0 again, this time for our newest Dimension X Cohort 7 ⚒️ Over the last couple of days, we welcomed Cohort 7 of Dimension X - a dynamic group of global start-ups across countries like USA, UK and Austria - into our innovation centre. After making it through the selection process, our founders finally met their Champions in Singapore for the first time, kickstarting discussions on proofs-of-concept that will unfold over the next four months. The onboarding journey featured curated workshops to sharpen pitching and financial storytelling skills, insightful sharing sessions with the Home Team and ecosystem partners, and even a visit to Garage@HTX. To top it off, our founders explored Singapore’s rich history and culture, setting them ahead for success as they begin to work with our local Home Team officers. 🚁 Spotlight Series #5: On-The-Fly Convening global start-ups, local and international regulators in the aviation industry, Hatch brought Home Team officers on a deepdive into how eVTOL technologies could shape public safety. ✨ Event Highlights:  🔹 Hatch sharing: Future of eVTOLs in public safety 🔹 Keynote by Richard Browning, CEO of Gravity Industries, on regulatory sandboxes and innovation in flight 🔹 Panel Insights: - Mariam Al Obeidi, Specialist Airspace, Safety Affairs Sector, UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) shared that in integrating eVTOLs, it’s important to recognise different approaches for manned versus unmanned (autonomous) systems, where there are no humans in the equation.” - Ali Al Mulla, Manager, Emerging Technologies, Safety Affairs Sector, UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) touched on how with new tech, conversations around safety issues shift from engines, to batteries, to electrical power. At the same time with such new aircrafts, there is also less data available. While conducting tests and experimental flights, the UAE GCAA addresses issues with the manufacturer from a regulatory point of view. Once operations are considered safe, that’s when they go on to the next stage. - Keith Huang, Deputy Director (Unmanned Systems Technology, Engineering and Planning), Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), explained Singapore's unique operating context, which introduces complexities to setting up testbeds for unmanned aircraft operations in the near future. Despite these challenges, CAAS works with government agencies, international partners, and the industry to share and learn from best practices and experiences to collectively strengthen and build robust capabilities. Ultimately, CAAS aims to regulate unmanned technologies effectively, progressing innovation while not compromising safety. - Darryl Abelscroft, Future Safety and Innovation, UK Civil Aviation Authority shared that safety starts from day one, from advising their approach to innovation and sandboxes, and then evolves into organisational testing programmes. - Luhai Wong, Deputy Director, & Dishi Li, Lead Engineeer, VWS, HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency) who shared that this rapidly developing field is also a rapidly maturing one.
