Did a final look back at 2024 with Boon. Didn't hit our growth target, but proud that we were able to 2x pipeline in a year that i've been referring to as "hr tech winter." Some highlights of what we got right & wrong: RIGHT 1. Sticky Customers –> 90% logo retention + 110% NRR Coaching has traditionally been seen as more of a nice to have than a need to have. Since the beginning of 22', we've been in an environment where businesses are cutting back on discretionary spend. We've felt some of this pain. But in more cases than not, we’ve become embedded into the culture of our customers that creates a unique stickiness. Something they don’t want to take away from their people. 2. Referrals = lifeblood Closing ~40% of any referrals that come through the door, and half of our business is generated through this channel. Built a strong network of ambassadors that want to share their experience of working with Boon. We become a viral resource that is talked about in team meetings and performance reviews. "the boon effect" 3. Product Evolution Entered 2024 as a one-trick pony with company-wide coaching. It's a solid product, but see #1. The market shifted - more focus on high-po leaders and c-suite. So we adapted: targeted leadership development, exec coaching, skills-based group workshops. Now a full suite that's truly an extension of people development teams. 4. Moving upstream - SMB + Mid-Market + Enterprise Thought 50-500 employees was our sweetspot. HR teams of 1-3 that are spread super thin and don't have bandwidth to build an entire employee growth infrastructure. (*Still a ton of whitespace here). But, we're seeing our platform layer beautifully onto sophisticated L&OD teams at larger orgs. Have seen incredible impact at a handful of mid-market / enterprise customers. Exponential growth opportunities here in 2025. WRONG 1. Outbound If I see one more “How I booked 3,000 meetings" post, I may 🤮 . A few things I know: - Spray + pray is dead. - Personalization (or "show me you know me") does work—but it's super time consuming. Which is why... - “Mass personalization at scale” seems to be what we’re all headed. We haven't cracked the code on this. Experimenting with some tools that I'm super excited about, but there is no silver bullet here. 2. Marketing strategy We’ve thrown a lot of shit at the wall. Some things have stuck, but it’s been difficult to parse out what moves the needle and where to focus. ESPECIALLY challenging as a lean, bootstrapped company. Have seen nice organic growth across social and website, but hasn’t quite converted yet into the inbound engine we’d like it to be. Takeaway: Looking ahead to 2025, something feels different. The nature of work has transformed, but leadership development hasn't caught up. That narrative changes this year. Grateful to our customers and partners who've shaped who we are.
