Helping women leaders in HE to regain control so they can flourish in their careers and communicate with confidence, influence and authority

Last day at ARC conference in Bristol with the wonderful AHEP Consulting team - I’m here with Amanda Owen-Meehan Neal Chamberlain FCIPD, ICF ACC and Ailsa Crum and we’ve been reflecting on the incredible conversations we have had during the conference. It’s given us real food for thought as we explore more ways that AHEP Consulting can support people in the HE sector. If you’ve had ideas too, please share - we are very interested to hear what you’d like to see as part of our offer. And, of course, coaching! We’ve had some great mini coaching sessions during the conference and it’s prompted us to think about how we talk about coaching, the different ways it can unlock thinking and problems and the way it has matured as a discipline. Including linking it to change management more overtly as Su Kulkarni has encouraged us to think. Thanks to you all for a great conference!

  • A huge thank you to Ellucian for sponsoring last night’s ARC Conference Dinner, an incredible evening of great company, conversation, and celebration. We had the unique privilege of dining aboard the world-famous SS Great Britain, one of the most iconic ships in history. Stepping onto the beautifully restored vessel was like stepping back in time, and we were even welcomed by Brunel himself! 🏗️👋 The setting couldn’t have been more fitting: a remarkable blend of heritage, innovation, and community, values that resonate deeply across the ARC network and with our partners at Ellucian. Here’s to another year of collaboration, inspiration, and shared success. #ARC2025 #Ellucian #SSGreatBritain

A pinch me moment today as I got to join an all star panel with @Arif Ahmed, Pamela Gillies and Charlotte Corrish chaired by the excellent Jo Coward at the Academic Registrars' Council conference in beautiful Bristol. In a session titled ‘The Sector at a Crossroads’ we got to touch on themes of governance, financial sustainability, strengthening student focus and engagement, the regulatory landscape, sector reputation and more. I argued that we shouldn’t look at efficiency in isolation and instead should be thinking about the interplay between efficiency, quality and student success to identify the critical decisions and pathways for the crossroads we are at. I argued that the sector lacks sufficient focus and discipline to hone in on the critical issues - that we weren’t helped by the breadth of regulation in this regard nor by the complexity of institutions we have established and that we are perhaps distracted from a clarity of focus by some of the egos involved in governance and leadership. I took the opportunity to talk about the need for independent stewardship for partnership and collaboration that could support universities to think about their ability to work differently with other organisations and institution's and find models of partnership and collaboration that were both of the sector and institutions but also have some objectivity and look beyond the architects of institutions as they currently are. Brilliant fun with a great panel, a fantastic group of professionals in the audience asking probing questions and all in the gorgeous city of Bristol. A cracking start to my week!
