We have completed a ground-breaking trial of Engine Carbon Clean (ECC), using hydrogen to remove carbon build-up inside rail plant engines. The results? 💨 15.79% fewer emissions ⚙️ Better engine performance ⏳ Longer asset life ⛽ Lower fuel use As the first infrastructure company to apply this technology to rail-mounted plant, we’re now rolling ECC out across our entire tamper fleet, powering progress toward a cleaner, more sustainable future for rail. Yesterday, Balfour Beatty proudly sponsored Highways Magazine hosting the Roadworker Safety and Abuse Symposium. The event brought together customers, delivery partners and other sector leaders to address the rising levels of abuse faced by roadworkers and to drive collective action across the industry. Roadworkers continue to face unacceptable behaviour, including verbal threats, physical assaults and dangerous driving, simply for doing their jobs. We are already taking action, but it is clear that no single organisation can solve this alone. At the symposium, leaders from across the sector shared their experiences, explored practical solutions and reinforced a shared commitment to protecting roadworkers. This is an important step forward and we will continue working together to drive action on roadworker safety. #EndRoadworkerAbuse National Highways, Transport for London, Warwickshire County Council, Sussex Police, AtkinsRéalis, Kier Group, Ringway, Breedon Group plc, Minerva Elite Performance, Chevron Traffic Management, Skewb Ltd, HAUC(UK), Ferns Group, Galliford Try, WJ Group

🎉We are thrilled to announce that Eliza Butter, Social Impact Coordinator, has been named Graduate of the Year at the Construction News Workforce Awards. 👏 Since joining us in May 2024, Eliza has made a lasting impact on local communities. Her leadership on the Coalie Park Skate Park project in Leith turned a community vision into reality – transforming a neglected riverside area into a vibrant recreational space with purpose-built skate features, Gaudí-inspired mosaic seating and green spaces that boost biodiversity. Eliza helped secure over £19,000 in funding and materials, and established a training academy that supported 11 unemployed young people gain CSCS cards and valuable hands-on site experience. Beyond her work at Coalie Park, Eliza has championed initiatives from ecology walks to career events, connecting people to opportunity and environmental awareness. A judge commented: “Eliza has made a big impact in a small amount of time. She demonstrates authentic, high-impact leadership well beyond her experience level.” Congratulations Eliza! #BalfourBeatty #BuildingNewFutures #CNworkforce #winner #ConstructionNews

For the first time in 67 years, Nottingham has a new river crossing. Last week, the 87-metre, 161-tonne Waterside Bridge was lifted into place over the River Trent – connecting the Trent Basin area and Lady Bay and bringing communities in Nottingham and Rushcliffe closer together. Delivered on behalf of Nottingham City Council through the SCAPE Civil Engineering framework, the bridge will create safer, greener routes for pedestrians and cyclists, supporting a more connected and sustainable future for the city. We’re proud to have played a part in this historic moment for Nottingham. We’re proud to share our industry-leading results from this year’s Employee Engagement Survey. This month, we asked our colleagues from across the UK, US and Hong Kong to share their views to help shape who we are and how we continue to grow. Our Group-wide engagement score stands at a strong 83% – 8% higher than the industry average. One of our biggest achievements – an 8% improvement in our people saying, ‘There are opportunities to develop a career within Balfour Beatty’. A huge thank you to our 19,900 employees who took part. With participation up 2% from last year, it’s clear our people feel confident sharing their views and trust us to act on their feedback. Check out the headline results! #PressPlayHaveYourSay #BalfourBeatty

Great to see the continued investment in #Harrogate as work pauses for the festive period. The progress made this year, both on the network upgrade and through projects like the Coppice Valley biodiversity space, is making a real difference. Looking forward to seeing the impact continue in the New Year. ⚡🌿
To help make festive journeys smoother, we’re pausing our work in Harrogate from today (24 November). It’s been a fantastic year in Harrogate, powering progress and positive change, and we’ll be back in the New Year to continue upgrading your electricity network, making it stronger, smarter, and ready for the future. ⚡ As Harrogate grows and embraces low-carbon technologies, our £20 million investment will ensure the town has the power it needs to support sustainable living and drive positive change. Discover one of our recent Social Impact schemes below👇 where we’ve created a biodiversity space at Coppice Valley Primary School, with our delivery partner Balfour Beatty plc. This will also offer residential trips to surrounding schools - helping nature flourish and inspiring future generations.🌳🌿 #Investment #Harrogate #Community #SocialImpact
