Major simplification is ahead for EU sustainability rules. The Omnibus I package could reduce companies subject to CSRD by 90% and significantly lighten CSDDD obligations. The key HR implications include thresholds rising to 1,750+ employees for the CSRD and 5,000+ for the CSDDD, a substantial reduction in mandatory workforce data points, capped value chain reporting obligations, and a shift toward more risk-based, targeted due diligence. Our team has published a detailed analysis outlining the timeline, remaining uncertainties, and practical steps for HR compliance teams. Please reach out to our authors Jehan de Wasseige, Pauline Kuipers, or Sander Wagemakers to explore what this means for your business. With just two weeks until Australia's social media minimum age restrictions take effect on 10 December 2025, age-restricted social media platforms (ARSMPs) face a compliance crunch. Platforms must not only prevent under-16s from holding accounts but also navigate strict privacy obligations around data collection and use. The eSafety Commissioner will focus enforcement on platforms with the most underage users, wielding broad information-gathering powers under s 63G that can compel any electronic service provider to prove compliance or face significant penalties. The message is clear: document everything now, from age-assurance measures to platform assessments, or risk costly regulatory action.
