On the day Rayhan was meant to play one of the Three Kings in his nursery nativity, he was diagnosed with a high-grade brain tumour. Just four months later, he tragically passed away. His family have honoured his memory ever since, fundraising, campaigning and helping support the launch of our Scottish Centre of Excellence earlier this year. 🎄 This Christmas, you can help bring hope. 💛 Our Vision - To find a cure for all types of brain tumours
About us
💛 Our Vision - To find a cure for all types of brain tumours 💛 Our Mission - To increase the UK investment in research into brain tumours One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, brain tumours continue to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet, to date, just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. A powerful campaigning organisation, Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community. Unique and much needed, it is the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. The charity is campaigning to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK. Help fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.

We are delighted to share the fantastic news that our world-renowned Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence has been awarded £2.8million to drive its future work. The new funding builds on a partnership with Brain Tumour Research that spans more than a decade, and will enable our researchers – from experienced theme leads to early career researchers and current students – to deepen their understanding of how low grade tumours develop and translate that knowledge into life-changing therapies. Earlier this week, the new Director of the Centre of Excellence – Professor David Parkinson – spoke about what the funding means, for our researchers and for the patients and clinicians who stand to benefit from their work. We were also excited to welcome actor and producer Craig Russell for a tour of the centre and he told us what its work means to him. Craig underwent surgery at Derriford Hospital for a low-grade meningioma in February 2023, and is now an Ambassador for Brain Tumour Research. We’re proud to announce a £2.8 million investment into our Centre of Excellence at the University of Plymouth, powering ground-breaking research that could transform treatment for low-grade brain tumours. David Parkinson, Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Plymouth and the newly appointed Director of the Centre, said: “It is an honour to lead the Plymouth Centre into this exciting new chapter." The funding support will enable scientists to explore different pathways to improve treatments, including finding new drugs to make radiotherapy more effective and testing existing drugs for other medical conditions to see if they can make an impact in brain tumours. It was a real privilege to attend the Scottish Centre of Excellence Lab Tour with Brain Tumour Research a couple of weeks ago and to see first-hand the incredible work being carried out at the The Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, which is dedicated to advancing the development of new treatments for glioblastoma. Professor Steven Pollard, Co-Director of the Centre, gave an inspiring overview of the vital research taking place within the Centre, after which we were invited to visit the lab and the Wall of Hope — where a tile is placed for every day of research funded at a Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence. Following our family's fundraising efforts (Caitlin McFarlane, Kevin McFarlane) in honour of my mum’s 10-year anniversary earlier this year, we raised over £11,000 for Brain Tumour Research, funding more than four days of research into the very disease that stole my mum from us far too soon. It was truly heartwarming to see her represented on the Wall of Hope. What meant the most to me, though, was being able to share the day with my Gran — who cared for my mum throughout her illness and has since been the strongest maternal figure in my life. Having her by my side while we saw the tangible impact of the funds raised, and knowing that my mum’s memory continues to drive meaningful change, made the experience incredibly special. Thank you to Brain Tumour Research for organising such an inspiring event! To read more about the work they do or read my mum's story, please do visit the below. Exciting news for the brain tumour community! The NHS will increase what it can spend on medicines. The threshold for approving new medicines has risen by 25%, meaning more breakthrough cancer drugs and rare-disease therapies could now be approved. Together, we will find a cure. #BrainTumourResearch #TogetherWeWillFindACure #BrainTumourAwareness

We welcome today’s Government announcement on changes to the medicines price policy, alongside the new UK–US pharmaceutical deal, which together mark an important step forward for patients affected by brain tumours. 💛 Our CEO, Dan Knowles, said we are "highly optimistic about these developments. Greater flexibility in the NICE cost-effectiveness model, alongside increased NHS spending on medicines means that new and breakthrough treatments - including for cancer and rare diseases - have a better chance of reaching patients sooner." We look forward to continued collaboration between Government, the pharmaceutical industry and patient advocacy groups to improve options and outcomes for all patients.
