Continuing our celebration of World Physiotherapy Day, we’re proud to share a message from Janet Thomas. Janet is one of our senior physiotherapists and the secretary of the International Association of Physiotherapists working with Older People (IPTOP). Janet plays a key role on the global stage, helping shape the future of physiotherapy for older adults. IPTOP partnered with World Physiotherapy to develop this year’s toolkit, focusing on healthy ageing and the vital role physiotherapists play in preventing falls, promoting mobility, and enhancing quality of life. 🎬 Watch Janet’s video to hear her insights on the international impact of physiotherapy and how local practice connects to global progress.

It's World Physiotherapy Day. Today we celebrate the life-changing impact of physiotherapy. Physiotherapy supports recovery, promotes independence, and helps people of all ages stay active and well. This year’s theme is physiotherapy and healthy ageing, highlighting the essential role physios play in helping older adults maintain mobility, strength, and confidence. 🎥 Vicki Salisbury is one of our team lead physiotherapists. Vicki has recently been awarded a national AHP Fellowship and is leading an innovative project to improve dizziness management through a joint physiotherapy and ENT clinic. It's hoped her work will help prevent falls among older people.

🎓 We were delighted to host pupils from high schools across Fife for the second of our Health and Social Care Partnership careers events at Queen Margaret Hospital. Over two days, we welcomed around ninety S4-S6 pupils from Dunfermline, Auchmuty, Glenwood, St Columba’s RC, Beath and Lochgelly High Schools, along with pupils from Levenmouth Academy and Madras College. Professions represented included a range of Allied Health Professions, dental, nursing, social work and social care and the Scottish Ambulance Service. The pupils had a great time gaining hands on experience and an insight into potential careers as well as getting to try out state of the art technology in our Education Centre.

🏡 Thinking about a homebirth? You’ve got options in Fife. Women in Fife can choose to give birth at home, in a midwife-led unit, or in a consultant-led hospital setting. At your first midwife appointment, you’ll discuss your medical history and birth preferences including the option to birth at home. If you’re considering a homebirth, speak to your community midwife early. They can refer you to our dedicated Birth at Home team, who will support you throughout your pregnancy and birth journey. You’ll be allocated a named midwife and a buddy midwife, offering continuity of care and support - from pregnancy through to postnatal care.
