As we commemorate 100 years in business, it's incredible to reflect on how our journey evolved from simple cleaning cloths to manufacturing one of our most well-known products – the mop. The story of Robert Scott is deeply connected to innovation within the UK’s textile industry. In the early 20th century, Oldham’s cotton mills were producing mountains of yarn waste. That is when Robert saw an opportunity to create something new. What began as recycled cloths soon evolved into mop heads made from off-cuts and end-of-runs of yarn that would have otherwise gone to waste. As part of marking our 100th year in business, we'd like to mention a key member of staff who has served Robert Scott for many years: Gill Courtney, Head of Sales, 30 years of service. Gill’s worked in different roles within Harold Watson before the company was acquired by Robert Scott, gaining lots of experience prior to being promoted to Head of Sales. She’s proud to be part of such a successful company, travelling up and down the country meeting lots of customers and flying the Robert Scott flag. Gill’s seen some incredible changes over the years that 100 years ago would have seemed impossible culminating recently in the new range of cutting-edge cleaning robots! She loves getting to know our customers’ businesses, while being part of a great sales team that’s so well thought of within the industry. A highlight is welcoming customers to our new showroom and talking about innovative cleaning developments.
