Sadly, again another high profile prostate cancer diagnosis makes the news and we join others in wishing Joe Biden strength in his fight against the disease. Last week, Stratosvir participated in a Prostate Cancer Research initiative “Meet the Scientists” for patients and scientists to discuss their experiences and concerns. It was a humbling experience to learn of patients’ brave struggle during diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Whilst the prognosis of early stage disease is good, this does rely on early detection and GPs providing access to a PSA test, which still remains an issue for some. In particular, it is important to understand one’s own baseline for future tests. Early screening is especially relevant for black men, who experience a disproportionately higher incidence and mortality rate from prostate cancer compared to white men, with a significantly higher risk of developing more aggressive forms of the disease. A focus of discussion was of ‘treatment regret’ for the mental and physical side effects of current therapies, which are often overlooked, and the need to develop better therapies. Stratosvir Awarded UK Germany Bilateral Collaborative R&D Grant from Innovate UK We are delighted to secure the support of Innovate UK to develop a novel platform for biological drug payload delivery. This propels our ambition to bring a pipeline of drugs to the clinic designed to be safer and more effective than the current standards of care for advanced cancers. The STARLITE grant will enable Stratosvir to develop a complete immuno-oncology platform for discovery and delivery of novel proprietary therapeutic payloads, in collaboration with its German partner, in this bilateral arrangement between Innovate UK and ZIM (Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand - Central Innovation Programme for SMEs.) Key outcomes will be vectorized antibody immunotherapies for treatment of advanced Prostate Cancer and other late-stage cancers. STARLITE will keep Stratosvir at the forefront of the fast-evolving viral immuno-oncology space. The non-dilutive funding from Innovate UK augments recent investment by o2h Ventures, Cancer Research Horizons, Proven Connect (Prostate Cancer Research) and business angels.
