AI is revolutionising business as companies harness the technology to make their operations more efficient and streamline time-intensive processes. And it is playing a leading role in reaching sustainability goals for business leaders in the UK. Our recent survey, A New Pace of Change: Industrial AI x Sustainability, showed that 69% of industry decision makers consider industrial AI "essential" in addressing climate change challenges, while 91% expect the technology to significantly accelerate the energy transition in their industries over the next three years. By analysing vast amounts of data, AI can accurately and rapidly forecast energy demand and supply, enabling companies to optimise their energy usage and reduce waste. 📈 AI is also playing a crucial role in the development of smart grids which use AI to balance energy supply and demand in real-time, integrating renewable energy sources seamlessly into the grid. This leads to a more resilient and efficient energy system, capable of supporting the transition to a low-carbon future. However, our research also revealed that only 16% of respondents have currently implemented industrial AI within their business. 🤖 With nations like the US and China investing heavily in AI research, the global race for AI leadership is well and truly on. And, with a massive economic prize pot up for grabs (£12.1 trillion according to PwC), the UK simply cannot afford to lag behind. But with a new vision for AI in Westminster, the UK now has an opportunity to become a sensible space for the innovation and, crucially, deployment of AI. And we can accelerate AI adoption through stronger collaboration between industry, government and technology partners. 💻 At Siemens, we’re taking a major leap in industrial AI. Through a recent partnership with Microsoft on the Azure platform, we’re developing a new industrial foundation model which will redesign the collaboration between humans and machines and to increase productivity, efficiency and quality along the value chain. It will provide data-based recommendations and will significantly accelerate the introduction of AI solutions in industry, alleviate the skilled workforce gap and increase operational excellence.
