Inclusion does not and should not 🟰uniformity. 🧐 Read a few posts recently about how making a workplace an environment where someone with autism or adhd can thrive is ‘good for everyone’. The posts suggesting these things help everyone thrive at work: * Predictable work * Clear tasks and expectations * Calm and controlled environment 🛑 But it made me stop. Because this kind of work environment would make me shrivel up and diminish not thrive. I thrive in spontaneity, creativity, agility, and autonomy. And I know I’m not alone. 🧠 So just a gentle reminder that there is NO such thing as a one size fits all work environment that works for everyone. Because people are individual. What works for you may not work for me. 👮❌ The key is not uniformity - it is individuality, flexibility and autonomy. It is understanding yourself, seeking to understand others, open and honest conversations about what can change and what can’t, understanding a role/organisation and finding - or creating - a place (and critically working with a team/manager/clients) where you and your team can be at your best. #diversity #inclusion #culture

The Black Maternity Experiences Report by Five X More has been released, and I’m proud to have contributed as part of the expert panel that supported its development. This report highlights significant and persistent inequalities in maternity care. Many Black women did not receive the pain relief they requested, and 40% of those women were given no explanation as to why. What stands out to me about this report is that it doesn’t stop at identifying the issues. It offers practical and tangible solutions. One recommendation that particularly resonated with me is the need to champion informed care before, during, and after pregnancy. Our preconception services in the UK are incredibly limited. I wonder how many prospective parents have had the opportunity to sit down with their GP or another healthcare professional for a fully informed conversation before trying to conceive. This kind of care should be part of standard planning, not a privilege.
