No matter if DeepSeek spent 5 million, 100 or 1billion - LLMs become better while becoming cheaper. Cheaper to build and cheaper to run. DeepSeek is another massive step towards the commodisation of LLMs. As margins squeeze for the LLMs, they will seek margin within AI applications, hence they build their own agents, computer use etc. It is what they differentiate themselves from other LLMs. So to build a business that has a moat, you have to find an industry specific AI application with a non-public dataset, maybe even an offline data set. Something not even DeepSeek has access to. And then you can do magical things, AI applications for the real world. That help offline businesses (=90% of businesses) do better. The great thing is: you can build this from anywhere. Even outside the US and China. Even in the EU. (and yes we still have to undo the AI Act urgently so that we can create global AI application winners, just regulate high risk AI but leave the rest unregulated. "We felt like the valuation we'd get didn't reflect the true value of the business..." Just had an awesome conversation with James Baker B.Eng (Civil) from Varicon - we spoke about navigating that tricky gap between seed and Series A (which a lot of growing companies face)... and it perfectly shows why bridge funding is having such a moment right now! 🎯 → Quick Context: We're massive fans of equity. We fund tons of companies backed by VCs and angels. This isn't about debt versus equity at all. 🙂 It's about using the right capital at the right time.  And sometimes? The smart play between rounds is bridging with debt instead of diluting early. → The Scenario: We’ve got James… a founder sitting between seed and Series A. Growing nicely. Revenue coming through. However, they knew their valuation would be way better in 6-12 months with the right hires and proof points. Sound familiar? → The Three Options They Faced: 1. Organic Growth Only - Slower path. Safe, but watching opportunities slip by while competitors scale. 2. Equity Round Now - Give away chunks of the company at a valuation that doesn't reflect where they're heading. 3. Bridge with Debt - Get cash fast. Make key hires. Prove the model. Then raise Series A at a proper valuation. Guess which one they chose? → The Results? 📈 Their first hire (account exec) is already onboarded and closing deals. Multiple other key hires either starting or in pipeline. Oh, and they just closed another major client. From decision to impact in weeks, not months. Here's What James said about working with us 🙂: "Tractor team are really founder-focused. There's not a whole bunch of red tape getting in the way." They had options. And out of all of them? Debt was the clear winner for this stage. → The Smart Play: They knew these hires would create a short-term cost before revenue kicked in. They also knew the return on investment would be fast. So instead of diluting at the wrong time, they bridged the gap with confidence. Now they're celebrating milestones and setting themselves up for a much better Series A conversation. 💪 Sometimes the best funding decision isn't about getting the most money.  It's about getting the right money at the right time.
