“Is this the worst time to launch a recruitment business ever?” - Boutique Investment Management CTO The question I was asked last week near St. Pauls Cathedral. With parts of the Investment Management industry experiencing significant turbulence, from organisation restructures to layoffs in Data, Tech & Transformation, and even within some Talent Acquisition teams - it might look like a challenging time to start anything new in recruitment. In reality, a stressed market is precisely when experience and a proven track record become an essential. The truth is, this had to happen now. After a long time waiting for the right moment, I realised I was the only thing holding me back from pursuing my passion. Starting Exec Communities was the only way I could fully make it work. On a personal level, launching has brought a profound sense of autonomy and accountability. I now have full ownership of every strategic decision, which means I can focus entirely on doing the right thing commercially for my clients and my own high standards. No long internal meetings when you’re a company of one! Fundamentally, I believe that if this foundation is built and tested during the most challenging market conditions, the effort will only make Exec Communities stronger when the market inevitably picks up.   Market timing was risky, yes. Compensation continues to trend upward, with candidates often securing ~20% salary uplifts when moving to competitors.
